The wedding took place at The Lodge, his official residence in Canberra, after Mr Albanese proposed to his partner Jodie Haydon on Valentine's Day last year. The Prime Minister's Office confirmed the ceremony was small, with only close family and friends present.
In a statement to the press, Mr Albanese said they were “extremely happy to share their love and commitment to their future together”. Haydon – who has been his partner for many years, including the 2022 election campaign and this May’s election – wore a dress by Sydney designer Romance Was Born , while the Prime Minister wore an MJ Bale suit.
The ceremony had many personal touches: Haydon's five-year-old granddaughter, Ella, served as the flower girl; the Prime Minister's dog, Toto, carried the wedding ring. Guests were served specially canned beer from the Willie the Boatman brewery in Sydney's Inner West.
After the ceremony, the couple walked down the aisle to Stevie Wonder's “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours),” and their first dance was to Frank Sinatra's “The Way You Look Tonight.”
The prime minister's office said the couple will enjoy an all-expenses-paid domestic honeymoon from Monday to Friday next week.
