Losing to rivals and a trophyless season, what will happen next at Real?

TPO - The season has ended for Real, in the worst way possible. Now they need to look to the future, and a series of changes are about to happen.

Travelling to Montjuic with a strong belief of victory, then starting a comeback in La Liga, Real Madrid left with a 3-4 defeat, also the fourth El Clasico defeat of the season. Of course, there is no miracle to dream of. They will end the season empty-handed, in the Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey.

Los Blancos fans, accustomed to winning, could not digest the heavy end. They gathered at the Valdebebas center in Madrid to boo the players who returned from Barcelona that night. Many also chanted slogans against President Florentino Perez, demanding his resignation.

There was no criticism of Carlo Ancelotti, though. Everyone sympathised with the Italian for what he had endured during a miserable season. Kylian Mbappe was frustrated on Sunday night when, despite becoming only the third Real player after Ferenc Puskas and Karim Benzema to score a hat-trick in an away El Clasico, he could not save Real.

A Los Blancos insider told The Athletic that the poor outcome was “the club’s fault for not strengthening”, while also commenting sourly on “the end of a cycle” in an “unbelievable” way.

Real are expected to announce the departure of Ancelotti, who won 15 trophies in his two spells at the club, this week. They could also release Trent Alexander-Arnold early if they reach an agreement with Liverpool, allowing him to make his debut at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.

According to Spanish journalist Josep Pedrerol, coach Xabi Alonso, who has announced his departure from Bayer Leverkusen, will also be present at the FIFA Club World Cup as Real coach. The reason is that he will arrive at the Bernabeu on June 1 and sign a three-year contract. This means that youth team coach Santiago Solari will not become interim coach. In addition to Alexander-Arnold, Xabi Alonso will also be added with at least two new players, a left-back and a center-back.
