Thua Thien Hue launches Action Month for the Vietnamese Elderly in 2023

On the morning of September 29, at the Phu Loc District Cultural House, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province organized the launching ceremony of "Action Month for the Vietnamese Elderly" in 2023 in the province with the theme "The elderly are promoted and fully cared for".

Leaders of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs presented gifts to the elderly in difficult circumstances.

The launching ceremony aims to spread widely, always in the awareness, responsibility and action of Party committees, Government, each citizen and the whole society, so that all elderly people in Thua Thien Hue province, especially the elderly in difficult circumstances and without support, always receive attention, help and dedicated care as the tradition of "Respect the elderly, respect longevity" of our nation.

In recent times, Party committees at all levels, authorities, organizations, and the Elderly Working Committee of Thua Thien Hue province have always paid attention to leading, directing, and effectively implementing activities to care for and support the elderly, thereby promoting the role of the elderly in all areas of social life, the material and spiritual life of the elderly has been gradually improved, "the elderly live happily, healthily, and happily"; and have full access to the regimes and policies of assistance, subsidies, longevity wishes, longevity celebrations... of the Party and State.

To date, the province has 183,127 elderly people, accounting for 15.1% of the province's population. The elderly are given priority in medical examination and treatment, have their records kept and have regular health check-ups, especially those with underlying medical conditions receive special attention. Regarding social assistance for the elderly, to date, the province has 35,663 elderly people receiving social protection in the community and 154 elderly people being cared for in public and non-public social protection facilities.

In addition, the elderly always promote the tradition of solidarity and patriotism; always uphold the spirit of "The older the age, the higher the will" to strive to overcome difficulties in life; actively respond to emulation movements and campaigns such as building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, environmental protection, etc. With the contributions of the elderly in terms of intelligence, prestige, experience, and passing on their profession to their children and grandchildren, the elderly become typical "shining examples" in society, models for the younger generation and children to follow, contributing to building the homeland of Thua Thien Hue increasingly prosperous.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province requested the Working Committee, the Representative Board of the Provincial Association of the Elderly; Party committees and authorities at all levels to continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and policies on the elderly. Promote and replicate good models, creative, effective and practical ways in protecting, caring for and providing better social security for the elderly, especially for the elderly in difficult circumstances, creating all conditions for the elderly to "live happily, healthily, happily and usefully". Continue to build strong and comprehensive elderly organizations, truly core organizations in the movement of "the whole people caring for, supporting and promoting the role of the elderly". From there, cultivate and embellish the nation's fine traditions of morality and humanity, preserve happiness and good customs in each family, and implement social security well.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province hopes that the elderly in Thua Thien Hue province will continue to promote the glorious tradition, carry out well the patriotic emulation movement "Old age - Bright example", "Live happily, Live healthy, Live usefully, Live happily", to contribute their enthusiasm, intelligence and experience to help build the province to soon become a centrally-run city.

Giving gifts to the elderly in difficult circumstances

At the launching ceremony, the Representative Board of the Elderly Association of Thua Thien Hue province donated 15 million VND to the Representative Board of the Elderly Association of Phu Loc district; the provincial leaders presented 20 gifts to 20 elderly people in difficult circumstances in Phu Loc district, each gift worth 1 million VND in cash. The People's Committee of Phu Loc district presented 40 gifts to 40 elderly people in difficult circumstances, each gift worth 400,000 VND in cash. The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Loc district presented 60 gifts to 60 elderly people in difficult circumstances, each gift worth 300,000 VND.
