Promoting the policy environment
In the context of export being an important growth driver of the Vietnamese economy , the use of digital technology and cross-border e-commerce to exploit global export potential is increasingly appreciated and focused on by the Government and the business community. One of the focuses of the Forum is the requirement to promote a policy environment with many supports for the development of cross-border e-commerce in Vietnam.
According to Amazon statistics, thousands of Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises are exporting through Amazon, with the number of enterprises achieving annual revenue of over 1 million USD, increasing nearly 10 times. However, besides the opportunities, the development of cross-border e-commerce also poses difficulties, challenges, as well as problems in implementation, practice or legal corridor issues for Vietnamese enterprises.
Therefore, the forum is an opportunity to exchange, propose updated information and share views and experiences to help the cross-border e-commerce sector develop sustainably and stably, thereby helping businesses increase their competitiveness and better access foreign markets.
At the “Cross-border E-commerce Forum 2024”, a representative of the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) presented Vietnam’s Import-Export Development Strategy to 2030. In addition, a representative of the Department of E-Commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) also shared the policy orientation to promote online exports in the period of 2026-2030, providing a comprehensive overview of Vietnam’s strategic vision in the coming time. A dynamic policy discussion with the participation of many different stakeholders, including representatives of Amazon Global Selling Vietnam, also took place immediately afterwards. The discussion focused on building and promoting regulations, support policies, incentives and infrastructure to support Vietnamese businesses to expand their operations across borders in a seamless, effective and sustainable manner.

Opening up new online export opportunities for Vietnamese businesses
In addition to supporting policies, the Forum also gathered and updated a series of solutions, programs and joint initiatives initiated by pioneering units in the industry to promote the success of Vietnam's e-commerce exports. Among them, the launch of the Vietnam Online Export Support Alliance (VESA) established by VECOM, including industrial service providers, logistics companies and technology partners to connect and support the Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprise community in digital transformation and exploiting online export opportunities.

Mr. Bui Trung Kien - Vice President, Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM) said: “Focusing on developing cross-border e-commerce is one of the important pillars that the Government is interested in on the journey to promote Vietnam's export potential. In particular, creating an environment to build business cooperation relationships, grasping the operating process on digital platforms, and modernizing trade activities contributes significantly to the opportunity to expand the market of businesses of all sizes. Understanding this, we cooperated with Amazon Global Selling to implement the 2024 Cross-border E-commerce Forum to provide the business community with updates on market potential, development strategies, and support and joint initiatives from many parties for the sustainable development of exports in general and Vietnam's online exports in particular.”
The Association also hopes to help businesses have a direction, a way to determine a long-term strategy when participating in the cross-border e-commerce market. For businesses with a long-term cross-border orientation, the way to go, the way to make products, the development direction will be more methodical, longer-term, more sustainable, bringing more value to Vietnamese products, going beyond the Vietnamese border to bring products to the global market.
Discussion on initiatives of organizations and business communities to promote cross-border e-commerce
According to the report “Local Sellers, Global Consumers: Vietnam E-commerce Export Trends 2022” by AccessPartnership, Vietnam’s B2C e-commerce export value is expected to reach VND296.3 trillion by 2027.
