Previously, patient H. was admitted to the hospital with a dull pain in the right flank, which increased with movement. Examination and CT scan showed that the patient had a 20x10mm right renal pelvis stone and grade III hydronephrosis.
According to Dr. Vo Truong Giang, Deputy Head of General Surgery Department (Quang Binh General Hospital), patient NTH had complex, large stones and had previously undergone surgery for kidney stones on the same side. Therefore, applying percutaneous nephrolithotomy through a small tunnel is the optimal method.
After determining the patient's condition is suitable for surgery, the doctors opened a small tunnel (6mm in diameter) created from the patient's lower back into the kidney, under ultrasound guidance. High-power laser helps to break up the stones, clean them and remove them from the body through the tunnel. Percutaneous nephrolithotomy has many advantages: less bleeding, less infection, and minimizes complications during and after surgery, the patient recovers faster and has less pain than the standard percutaneous nephrolithotomy technique - PCNL.

After more than 90 minutes of surgery, the patient's kidney stones were crushed and removed. Currently, Ms. NTH's health is stable.
For the first time, Quang Binh General Hospital successfully applied modern surgical techniques, opening up better treatment opportunities for patients with kidney stones and renal pelvis-ureter stones.
