Binh Dien Hydropower Plant in Hue increases spillway discharge, preparing for 1,000mm rain

On November 12, the Hue City Civil Defense Command issued an order to operate and regulate the Binh Dien hydropower reservoir from 3 p.m. the same day, to release some water from the reservoir, ready to welcome new floods, and cut floods for downstream areas during the upcoming heavy rains.

According to the forecast of the Hue City Hydrometeorological Station, from November 15 to 21, the city will have moderate to heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain. The total rainfall from November 12 to 21 is generally from 500 to 700mm; in mountainous areas from 700 to 900mm, in some places over 1,000mm.

Therefore, Binh Dien Hydropower Reservoir (upstream of Huong River) will regulate water through the spillway and turbine with a gradually increasing flow, avoiding sudden changes of about 200 to ^800m3 /s, adjusting depending on the amount of water flowing into the reservoir. The time to gradually increase the flow will start from 3:00 p.m. on November 12, 2025. Localities in the downstream area will develop appropriate response plans; strictly prohibit travel and fishing activities... on and along the river and lake (excluding activities of functional forces) and inform the people of the situation.

Hue City has just experienced a historic flood that caused many areas to be deeply submerged in October 2025. Currently, the city's government and people have basically overcome the consequences of the flood and gradually stabilized their lives after the natural disaster.
