Tottenham's starting salary could be higher than Arsenal's before the 2025/26 season kicks off. |
According to the Daily Mail , the reason lies in UEFA's new prize money sharing mechanism and the special reward for the Europa League champion. By winning the Europa League, Tottenham secured a place in the Champions League and the right to compete in the European Super Cup next August.
Under UEFA's new financial distribution model, the six Premier League clubs in the Champions League will each receive a starting prize of £15.72m, but the actual amount will vary based on their European performance coefficient over the past five and 10 years, as well as the value of their TV rights.
Tottenham will receive a total of around £44.62m, and if Portuguese runners-up Benfica fail to qualify, that could rise. When the £3.38m bonus from qualifying for the Super Cup is added, Spurs' pre-tournament earnings could reach £48m, around £140,000 more than Arsenal.
Despite finishing third in the Premier League, Man City are still the highest-earning English club ahead of the 2025/26 season, earning £53.13m thanks to the second-highest UEFA coefficient in Europe. Liverpool follow closely with £51.64m, Chelsea with £48.82m, and Arsenal with just £47.86m.
Newcastle, meanwhile, will only receive around £25.4m due to their lack of European success in recent years. They were placed in the bottom group in the Champions League draw, with Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea in Pot 1, Arsenal in Pot 2 and Tottenham in Pot 3.
Performance bonuses remain the same as last season, with the group winners receiving £8.3m after eight games, with £1.76m added for each win, and the eventual winners in Budapest could collect a further £55m.
