TikTok launches feature to "transform" still photos into videos

"AI Alive integrates intelligent editing tools that allow anyone, with or without editing experience, to turn still images into short, engaging videos filled with movement, atmosphere, and creativity," TikTok shared in a blog post.

To use AI Alive, users need to access the Story Camera tool (the story creation button on the platform), then select a photo from the album and AI Alive will be activated.

The user then enters a few descriptions of the desired video and the tool automatically processes it.

For example, if you have a landscape photo with sky, clouds, and sea; AI Alive can create a video in which the sky slowly changes color, clouds drift lazily, and there are even sounds of waves lapping.

This feature also allows for animated effects for group selfies.

However, AI Alive takes several minutes to complete a video that is only a few seconds long. The tool also has certain limitations, such as not being able to make a cat in a photo jump or turn it into an anime character.

AI Alive tested a photo of a cat sitting on a railing and gave it three different requests: create a Japanese anime-style video, ask the cat to move safely on the railing, and finally a classic-style video.

The results obtained are only relative, not completely as expected.

In parallel with the launch of the new feature, TikTok confirmed that it has implemented security measures to prevent users from abusing this tool to violate the platform's policies.

"To prevent the creation of content that violates the rules, TikTok's moderation technology will carefully review uploaded photos, written requests, and videos generated by AI Alive before showing them to users," TikTok explains.

More importantly, each video created by AI Alive will be clearly labeled as “AI-generated.”
