Finding solutions for children's theater

Người Lao ĐộngNgười Lao Động10/06/2024

Ho Chi Minh City currently has 12 stages, but this summer, only 5 stages invested in new plays to serve children's audiences.

According to insiders, it is necessary to reduce rental prices and invest in a children's script writing camp. People's Artist Tran Minh Ngoc believes that if watching children's plays contributes to creating a foundation for cultured and knowledgeable citizens in the future, then socialized theaters in Ho Chi Minh City need financial support to produce plays for children.

At the recent HCM City stage writing camp held in Ninh Thuan , only one children's script by young author Ky Phuong was selected to participate. This fact shows that there are still too few authors willing to write about children's topics as well as scripts for children.

"It is necessary to soon open a script writing camp on children's topics. There are currently 12 young drama groups operating in Ho Chi Minh City. It is necessary to gather these drama groups to participate in writing training courses. I believe that these young drama groups will be the place to create a rich source of scripts for children's theater" - artist Quoc Thao expressed.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Thai is concerned that currently, authors and stage works for children still have many limitations. There is still a situation of imposing adult perspectives on plays; the performance of some artists does not have the innocence, purity, and loveliness of children.

"HCMC needs to open training classes immediately. The HCMC Theater Association has an Arts Training Center, which will develop curriculum and lesson plans to train young professionals in children's theater skills. HCMC has the HCMC Drama Theater, which needs to create conditions for them to promote their works after they attend training classes," emphasized Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong.

The current theater scene is facing a difficult problem of a shortage of good scripts for young audiences. "From the initial script framework, the reinforcement of experienced experts will help the group of young authors have many new, good scripts that speak to the things that children today are interested in" - Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Yen Chi, Acting Head of the Training Department - Ho Chi Minh City University of Theater and Cinema, said.

People's Artist My Uyen, who has experience in staging and performing for children in recent times, believes that creating a stage for children is not easy. "It must be an entertaining play to make young audiences happy and refreshed, but it also needs to carry a gentleeducational message, sometimes just a beautiful line of dialogue or action. The refinement of language in composing children's plays is also an issue that we adults need to pay attention to," she said.
