Recently, units in the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) have invested in and expanded many automatic car washing stations entering and leaving mine roads with residential areas. This solution helps units control and minimize the amount of dust emitted from the mine to the surrounding environment.

Before 2021, Vo Thi Sau Street, Cam Phu Ward (Cam Pha City), from the headquarters of Coc Sau Coal Joint Stock Company (now Deo Nai - Coc Sau - TKV Coal Joint Stock Company) was a "hot spot" for coal dust emissions affecting surrounding households. This was one of the main roads to the former Coc Sau Coal Joint Stock Company quarry. People living along this road used to report that on sunny days it was dusty, and in the rainy season the road was muddy with coal.
On average, every day, there are hundreds of vehicles transporting cadres and workers to and from the mine. Vehicles entering and leaving the mine are not washed promptly, causing coal dust to stick to them. This is one of the reasons why many years ago, Vo Thi Sau Street was often surrounded by coal dust, affecting the lives of local residents.
To solve this problem, at the end of 2020, TKV invested in installing a train washing system and an automatic car washing station at Coc Sau station trough area. The project has a total investment of more than 8.7 billion VND. This is one of the projects to implement the commitment between TKV and Cam Pha City on strengthening environmental protection. Accordingly, the system consists of two separate locations, in which the train washing station area has an area of nearly 645m² and the automatic car washing station has an area of 485m² built at Coc Sau station trough area in the industrial yard of Cua Ong Coal Selection Company - TKV and at the security station No. 2 of Deo Nai Coal Joint Stock Company - Coc Sau - TKV.
In early January 2021, the project was officially put into operation, thereby helping to reduce dust concentration, protect the environment in the mines of coal industry units and minimize the amount of coal, slag, and soil and rock released into residential areas along the road and rail transport routes. Currently, Cam Phu Ward is also coordinating with Deo Nai - Coc Sau - TKV Coal Joint Stock Company to closely monitor and require vehicles to wash their vehicles before leaving the mine.
Mr. Pham The Cuong, a driver of Deo Nai - Coc Sau Coal Joint Stock Company - TKV, said: In the past, every time we transported cadres and workers to the quarry, coal dust often stuck to the wheels, chassis, body and trunk of the vehicle. When driving out of the quarry into residential areas, we were quite pressured because the vehicle often caused dust to the surrounding roads. However, since the automatic car wash station was put into operation, it has been quite effective, convenient, cost-saving and quick to wash cars. Currently, 100% of the unit's fleet has signed a commitment to wash their cars before entering and leaving the inner-city roads, contributing to reducing dust and dirt, making them cleaner than before.
Implementing the policy of linking production with environmental protection, thoroughly solving the problem of dust spreading into the surrounding environment, recently, TKV has been encouraging units to invest in car washing systems combined with automatic misting on the roads leading to and from the mine with neighboring residential areas. To date, TKV has invested in 4 automatic car washing stations. Of which, Deo Nai - Coc Sau - TKV Coal Joint Stock Company has 2 automatic car washing stations; Ha Tu Coal Joint Stock Company invested in 1 station and Quang Hanh Coal Joint Stock Company invested in 1 station. It is expected that from now until the end of 2024, TKV will continue to invest in 2 automatic car washing stations at Deo Nai - Coc Sau - TKV Coal Joint Stock Company and Khe Cham Coal Company.
To limit the amount of mud and dirt being released into the environment by vehicles entering and leaving the mine, localities are currently working closely with the coal industry units stationed in the area to inspect and review the actual number of vehicles, and require strict compliance with vehicle washing before entering and leaving the inner-city roads. Up to this point, vehicle washing has been strictly implemented by transport units, many units have even assigned people to supervise the car washing of drivers. Along with investing in expanding automatic car washing stations and maintaining strict sanctions, vehicles entering and leaving the mine site are always guaranteed to be clean before traveling on specialized roads passing through many residential areas.
