At the discussion session, speakers presented statistics from the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) on mental health in the workplace.

Accordingly, an estimated 15% of working-age adults were diagnosed with a mental disorder (2019). Globally, approximately 12 billion working days are lost each year due to depression and anxiety (accounting for approximately 20.7%), causing a loss of $1,000 billion per year in labor productivity.

In Vietnam, about 42% of workers regularly experience stress. Of workers, 22% said that personal and family life is the main cause of stress at work.

About 98.3% of female workers have children or are pregnant, 22.4% are raising children under 12 months old. For employees with children at home, their stress levels at work and in life are 40% higher than those without children.

According to psychologist Dr. Bui Hong Quan, the rate of people in the community suffering from depression and anxiety is very high, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. According to many reports, 3 out of 5 employees working in businesses are under pressure and stress.

Not only paying attention to the mental health of workers but also to their children, Ms. Lesley Miller - Deputy Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) - said that parents need to focus on the health, safety and behavior of children, early identification and prevention of domestic violence...

The solutions mentioned by experts are that businesses need to build a happy working environment and focus on work performance .

At the same time, implement programs to raise awareness about the importance of mental health care, or support programs for employees with mental health problems, such as counseling packages, psychotherapy, etc.

In addition to businesses, Dr. Steve Pham - founding chairman of ESI Leadership Institute - said that each individual worker also needs to know how to balance work and life. In fact, many people who try to work to achieve better results and higher positions often easily fall into a state of physical and mental exhaustion.

According to Ms. Tran Huyen Nhung - CEO of Tam Nhung Social Enterprise, people and workers themselves need to proactively prevent mental health problems. Seeking appropriate consultation and treatment from an early stage will improve the quality of life and minimize complications caused by mental disorders.
