The conference to honor village elders, village chiefs, artisans, and prestigious people who have made many contributions to preserving, maintaining, and promoting traditional cultural values of ethnic groups took place on the afternoon of April 18 at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism (Dong Mo, Son Tay, Hanoi ).

This is a meaningful activity on the occasion of "Vietnam Ethnic Culture Day" (April 19), with the participation of more than 120 delegates, representing many ethnic groups.

This conference aims to honor the cultural values, invaluable heritage of the nation and the great contributions of cultural subjects who are preserving, promoting, spreading, and teaching traditional cultural knowledge and folk arts from generation to generation. They are also the ones who unite the community, "keep the fire" in the villages, hamlets, and communes, and pass on the cultural quintessence to the next generation.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy stated that the Party and State have always paid attention to and directed the building and development of Vietnamese culture. At the 2021 National Cultural Conference, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed: "Culture is national identity. If culture remains, the nation remains. If culture is lost, the nation is lost." The General Secretary called for: "Strive to build, preserve and promote the unique values of an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity." Our country has 54 ethnic groups, each with its own precious traditional values and characteristics, contributing to creating a colorful cultural picture rich in humanistic values for Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Trinh Thi Thuy affirmed that the cultural identity of ethnic groups is crystallized from precious traditional values, passed down from generation to generation, and is a priceless heritage and asset of the nation. Therefore, preserving, conserving and promoting the traditional cultural identity of ethnic groups is an important task in building and developing the country. Among them, the team of village elders, village chiefs, artisans and prestigious people of ethnic groups are the core members playing a particularly important role in mobilizing and passing on to their children and compatriots the preservation of the nation's precious cultural treasures.

Deputy Minister Trinh Thi Thuy asked the delegates to propose many practical solutions, suitable for each ethnic group in preserving and promoting traditional cultural values. From there, the cultural values of the people are preserved, promoted, contributing to the construction and development of the country. Each ethnic group clearly identifies the traditional cultural contents that need to be prioritized for preservation, restoration, and maintenance as well as the most suitable forms and solutions; proposes specific mechanisms from the Central to the grassroots level...

Representatives of ethnic minorities hope that all levels and sectors will pay more attention so that ethnic minorities can continue to maintain and promote their cultural identity, focusing on developing effective community tourism, spiritual cultural tourism, and ecological tourism in each region.

In addition, the authorities need to have mechanisms and policies to support communes in ethnic minority areas to build centers for preserving and developing ethnic culture. Along with that, there should be more preferential policies and incentives for village elders, village chiefs, artisans, prestigious people, officials working in cultural work in particularly difficult areas, and ethnic minorities. This is very important, and will contribute to stimulating the creativity of each individual and ethnic community that owns the heritage.

Delegates also said that it is necessary to conduct investigations, surveys, and classifications of traditional folk art forms to find the most specific and suitable solutions.

Based on the people's comments, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will research, gradually develop and submit for promulgation specific mechanisms and policies to preserve the culture of ethnic groups, contributing to preserving and promoting traditional values, avoiding the risk of losing and fading national identity. Along with that is the policy to enhance the level of cultural enjoyment, helping people to increasingly raise their sense of responsibility in preserving their own ethnic culture./.
