General Secretary receives Heads of delegations attending the signing ceremony of the Hanoi Convention

The General Secretary expressed his belief that the signing ceremony of the Hanoi Convention marks a new chapter in global cooperation and network governance, turning cyberspace into a space of law, cooperation and development.

On the afternoon of October 25, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received heads of delegations from countries attending the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime ( Hanoi Convention) and the United Nations High-Level Conference on Cybercrime.

At the reception, reporting to General Secretary To Lam and the Heads of Delegations on the results of the Hanoi Convention Signing Ceremony, General Luong Tam Quang, Politburo member, Minister of Public Security, said that in the capital city of Hanoi, witnessed by peace- loving people around the world, thousands of delegates representing 110 countries and international organizations, the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime took place successfully, solemnly, in accordance with international diplomatic protocol.

Ms. Ghada Waly, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, highly appreciated Vietnam's pioneering role and active contribution in the negotiation and hosting of the Convention signing ceremony in Hanoi. UNODC affirmed its commitment to accompany Vietnam in providing technical assistance, capacity building and considering the possibility of establishing a Regional Cybercrime Training Center in Hanoi.

At the reception, General Secretary To Lam expressed his pride that Hanoi was unanimously chosen by the United Nations members as the place to sign the Convention, demonstrating the recognition of the United Nations members for Vietnam's contributions in the fight against cybercrime. More broadly, it is also the international community's appreciation of Vietnam's efforts in promoting world peace and security as well as Vietnam's role and position in the international arena.

The General Secretary expressed his belief that the signing ceremony of the Hanoi Convention will mark a new chapter in global cyber cooperation and governance, turning cyberspace into a space of law, cooperation and development. Vietnam calls on countries to soon ratify the Convention so that it can take effect soon./.
