Launching the “Smoke-Free Environment” Campaign at restaurants, hotels and public places

On October 26, in Da Nang City, the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund (Ministry of Health) organized the event "Campaign to strengthen the implementation of smoke-free environments in restaurants, hotels and public places".

This is one of a series of activities being implemented in key tourism localities such as Hue, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa and Ho Chi Minh City, to spread the message of a green - clean - civilized tourism environment.

Spread the message "No smoke - No harm"

Attending and chairing the event were Ms. Phan Thi Hai - Deputy Director of the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund ( Ministry of Health ); Mr. Dang Cong Nhut - Deputy Chief of Office of the People's Committee of Da Nang City; Ms. Truong Quang Binh - Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Da Nang City; Ms. Nguyen Thu Phuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City and representatives of departments, branches, restaurants, hotels, accommodation establishments, youth, students and Centers for Disease Control of provinces and cities.

In particular, singer Dinh Dung - Campaign Ambassador - continues to accompany to spread the message "Smoke-free environment - Live civilized, healthy".

The campaign aims to raise public awareness of the right to breathe fresh, smoke-free air; contribute to protecting the health of people and tourists and promote the implementation of the Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms. At the same time, this activity also demonstrates Vietnam's efforts in implementing the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, thereby building the image of a civilized, friendly and safe tourist destination.

Outstanding activities within the framework of the Campaign include: launching ceremony calling on restaurants and hotels to strictly implement regulations on smoke-free environment; cycling and propaganda parades on the streets; hanging and pasting "No smoking" signs at about 200 hotels and restaurants in the city.

MSc. Dr. Phan Thi Hai: "A smoke-free environment not only helps protect people and tourists from the harmful effects of secondhand smoke, reducing the risk of dangerous diseases, but also helps improve the quality of services and the image of Vietnam's tourism industry."

Towards a "green - clean - friendly destination"

Speaking at the launching ceremony, MSc. Dr. Phan Thi Hai, Deputy Director of the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund (Ministry of Health ), emphasized: “A smoke-free environment not only helps protect public health, but also demonstrates a civilized lifestyle and social responsibility. When entering a hotel or restaurant, what visitors feel is not only luxury, but also a fresh, safe and comfortable space - that is the criterion that demonstrates the class and reputation of the service facility.”

Ms. Hai called on restaurants, hotels and tourist areas to strengthen the enforcement of smoke-free regulations, contributing to protecting public health, reducing the burden of disease and medical costs, while preserving landscapes and the environment, and promoting sustainable tourism development.

At the event, MSc. Dr. Truong Quang Binh - Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Da Nang City said that the Department will continue to advise the City People's Committee on solutions to strengthen state management and perfect the inter-sectoral coordination mechanism in the work of preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco.

At the same time, step up propaganda, inspection and supervision of the implementation of smoke-free environments in hospitals, schools and communities; coordinate with businesses and media agencies to replicate the models of "Smoke-free units" and "Green - clean - friendly hotels and restaurants".

A representative of Nesta Hotel (268 Vo Nguyen Giap, Da Nang) said that creating a smoke-free environment is part of a strategy to improve service quality, providing visitors with a fresh and comfortable vacation space.

“Cigarette smoke not only affects health but also reduces air quality, causing discomfort to tourists. Therefore, maintaining a smoke-free space is a way to affirm the class and professionalism of Da Nang tourism industry,” said a hotel representative.

Restaurants and hotels attending the event also signed a commitment to strictly implement the ban on smoking in indoor areas and locations according to the law; increase staff training on reminding customers, arrange signs and separate smoking areas, and closely coordinate with authorities in inspection and supervision.

After the launching ceremony in Da Nang, the Campaign "Strengthening the implementation of a smoke-free environment" will continue to be deployed in Ho Chi Minh City, aiming to spread the message of "Civilized tourism environment - Smoke-free" to the community and tourists nationwide.
