On the afternoon of October 26th, the signing ceremony for the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime ( Hanoi Convention) concluded successfully.

Following the closing session, General Luong Tam Quang, Member of the Political Bureau and Minister of Public Security, gave an interview to the press regarding the success of the event and its significance for Vietnam in building a safe and healthy online environment.

According to Minister Luong Tam Quang, the opening ceremony of the Hanoi Convention was a complete success in all aspects and has great significance for the international community, in which Vietnam demonstrated its role as a proactive, responsible, courageous, and good-willed nation.

With the participation of over 2,500 delegates from 119 countries and territories, more than 100 international organizations and leading technology companies worldwide , the event became a historic milestone in the process of building a global legal framework to effectively combat cybercrime.

In particular, the fact that 72 countries officially signed the Convention at the opening ceremony not only demonstrates trust in the central role of the United Nations and Vietnam's commitment and responsibility, but also reflects the profound shared concern of the international community for cybercrime. This is a record number, representing an unprecedented level of participation and support, especially for a very new international document, showing the great appeal and broad consensus, and the determination of the international community to act together to bring the Convention into life and ensure its full and effective implementation.

Minister Luong Tam Quang emphasized that Vietnam's hosting of the signing ceremony and the high-level conference of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime is of great significance in the process of building a safe and healthy cyberspace, serving the sustainable development of the country. This is the largest international event ever held on combating cybercrime, clearly demonstrating Vietnam's political determination and proactive role in creating a global cybersecurity ecosystem.

Vietnam's proactive leadership in global legal processes also contributes to demonstrating the resilience and aspirations of a nation entering a new stage of development: independence, self-reliance, deep integration, and responsibility towards the international community.

The Hanoi Convention is the first international legal instrument at the United Nations level on combating cybercrime, and it serves as an important basis for Vietnam to promote cooperation, receive technical assistance, enhance digital investigation capabilities, and share information with partners. Through this, Vietnam is gradually building a modern national cybersecurity ecosystem, in which the protection of citizens' rights, businesses, and digital sovereignty are placed at the center.

Minister Luong Tam Quang affirmed that this event creates a foundation for promoting education and awareness campaigns on cybersecurity throughout society, enhancing the awareness and responsibility of citizens and businesses, and contributing to building a civilized and safe digital environment – where all citizens can confidently study, work, and develop in the digital age.
