WIPO Director General visits Vietnam to promote cooperation in intellectual property and innovation

The focus of the visit is the meeting between WIPO Director General Daren Tang and the Minister of Science and Technology . The two sides are expected to discuss global trends related to IP and innovation, the major orientations of the Ministry of Science and Technology on science and technology, innovation and digital transformation (DT), and discuss specific proposals to promote IP and innovation activities in Vietnam in the coming time.

Under the witness of the Minister of Science and Technology, the National Office of Intellectual Property and WIPO will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of intellectual property - a comprehensive and inclusive agreement, covering many areas of cooperation, from policy and law development on intellectual property, to raising awareness, training human resources, supporting businesses and improving capacity for the national intellectual property office.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding will open a new chapter in the cooperation between Vietnam and WIPO. In particular, this agreement focuses on the global trend of shifting from protection to commercialization of intellectual property rights, while affirming the guiding and leading role of the Ministry of Science and Technology in the field of intellectual property in the new period.

Series of events promoting innovation between Vietnam and WIPO

Within the framework of the program, the WIPO Director General will attend the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2025 Introduction Workshop. The workshop will provide the latest information on the GII 2025 Report, Vietnam's ranking results, methodological adjustments, the meaning of the index, and trends and prospects of Vietnam's innovation in the coming years.

In addition, another important highlight of the visit is the meeting between the Director General of WIPO and leaders and staff of the IP Office. At this meeting, the IP Office will share some outstanding achievements in cooperation with WIPO in the past time and development orientation for the coming period.

Director General Daren Tang will also have a meeting and discussion with the young generation of Vietnam at the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology. The topic of the discussion is: “WIPO and the journey of creating an intellectual property ecosystem to promote innovation for the young generation of Vietnam”.

Along with the series of events, WIPO and Ministry of Science and Technology leaders will witness the launching ceremony of the Intellectual Property and Innovation Cooperation Alliance. This alliance will focus on practical cooperation contents such as: "Localizing" WIPO's e-learning training program for widespread implementation in Vietnam; Organizing WIPO Summer School in Vietnam annually; Building and developing brands, Managing intangible assets, Finance/valuation of intellectual assets; and inviting businesses in Vietnam's startup ecosystem to participate.

In addition, the WIPO Director General also has a schedule of courtesy meetings with Government leaders. He will also work with Viettel Group, the Ministry of Industry and Trade , the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to promote bilateral cooperation on IP with ministries in particular and cooperation with Vietnam in general.
