Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated and praised Donald Trump for his courage, while the US President-elect said the two would talk in the near future.
Speaking at the Valdai Club conference in the southern Russian city of Sochi on November 7, President Vladimir Putin said he wanted to congratulate Mr. Trump on his election as US President, according to RT. Mr. Putin noted that Mr. Trump had expressed his desire to end the conflict in Ukraine and that statement "deserves attention."

The Kremlin chief praised Mr Trump's actions after being shot during a campaign event in Pennsylvania in July, when he stood up and raised his fist despite being injured in the ear.
"I was very impressed. He was a brave man. A man who showed his true colours in emergency situations and I think he escaped admirably and bravely as a man," President Putin said.
This is believed to be Mr. Putin's first statement about Mr. Trump's victory. Previously, the Kremlin denied that Mr. Putin sent a private congratulatory message to Mr. Trump.
The Russian leader said he was ready to take a call from Mr Trump and stressed he was also ready to call his counterpart.
In an interview with NBC News on November 7, Mr. Trump said he had not contacted Mr. Putin but might talk in the near future. In the interview, the president-elect said he had spoken to about 70 world leaders since winning but had not yet spoken to Mr. Putin. "I think we will talk," Mr. Trump said.
Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin met and had a brief exchange at the APEC conference in Vietnam in November 2017. The first summit between the two took place in Helsinki, Finland in 2018. After that, the two continued to meet at the G20 conference in Osaka, Japan.
