President Putin gives Ural 3-wheeled motorcycle to American biker

Russian President Vladimir Putin presented a Ural three-wheeled motorcycle – a Russian motorized icon that served in World War II – to an Alaskan resident.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has presented a new Ural three-wheeled motorcycle with a sidecar to Anchorage, Alaska resident Mark Warren. The gift was given during Putin's visit to Alaska.

The gift was given in the parking lot of the hotel where the Russian delegation was staying, coinciding with the summit between Mr Putin and his counterpart Mr Trump in Alaska.

Warren was previously met by Russian reporters on the streets of Anchorage. He shared that he had difficulty finding spare parts for his old Ural, especially since the factory was located in Ukraine.

The Russian president learned of Warren through the news and decided to send the new car as a gesture of goodwill. “This is a personal gift from the Russian president,” Andrei Ledenev, a counselor at the Russian Embassy in Washington, said as he handed the keys to Warren, who was surprised in front of state television cameras.

Mark Warren was elated when he received the gift from Russian President Putin: “I am speechless, it is wonderful. Thank you very much,” he told Russian media. He also admitted that the new car is much better than the old one.

The Ural is based on the German BMW R71 design, which was copied by the Soviet Union before World War II. Ural is currently headquartered in Washington state, USA. However, after the conflict in Ukraine broke out, the entire production line was moved to Kazakhstan.

Ural Motorcycle Company was founded in 1941 in western Siberia, and now assembles vehicles in Petropavlovsk, Kazakhstan, and distributes them in the United States through a group based in Woodinville, Washington.

During his visit to Alaska on Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin also presented two Russian Orthodox icons to Archbishop Alexy of Sitka and Alaska, and in return, the Archbishop presented the Kremlin leader with an icon of St. Herman of Alaska.
