Ho Chi Minh City allows surveys to enroll 6th graders in some schools

On the morning of February 6, the Ho Chi Minh City Departmentof Education and Training issued a document on 6th grade enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year.

According to the above document, in the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to enroll 6th grade students by selection.

In there:

Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School and some local secondary schools can conduct admission based on a combination of two criteria: training and learning results in primary school years and capacity assessment survey results.

In particular, local secondary schools must simultaneously meet two requirements: having the number of registered candidates exceed the enrollment quota in recent years and being proposed by the People's Committee of Thu Duc City, district and county.

The remaining secondary schools conduct admission based on the results of training and learning at the primary level and use data from GIS maps to serve the work of allocating students, in which the admission areas of the schools are decided by the People's Committee of Thu Duc city, districts and counties according to the actual situation in the locality.

Previously, in early January 2025, the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City also issued a document on enrollment for grade 6 at schools: Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School, Hoa Lu Secondary School and Binh Tho Secondary School for the 2025-2026 school year.

Accordingly, the three secondary schools above are expected to continue enrolling 6th grade students through competency assessment surveys. The schools will organize the surveys on the same day and with the same questions, conducted by the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City.

The competency test has a duration of 90 minutes, consisting of 2 parts: multiple choice and essay. In which:

The test consists of 20 multiple choice questions in English about understanding natural sciences , social sciences and enjoyment of life.

The essay section includes a test of English proficiency: reading comprehension and writing in English; a test of mathematical and logical thinking abilities in Vietnamese; and a test of reading, comprehension and writing abilities in Vietnamese.

The survey is expected to take place in mid-June 2025.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City, the expected enrollment quota for grade 6 at 3 schools is as follows:

Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School: Enrolling 9 6th grade classes with 315 students, of which at least 5 are integrated English classes, the rest are enhanced English classes.

Hoa Lu Secondary School: Enrolling 7 6th grade classes with 245 students, of which at least 3 are integrated English classes, the rest are enhanced English classes.

Binh Tho Secondary School: Enrolling 8 6th grade classes with 280 students, including at least 3 integrated English classes, the rest are intensive English classes.

All students who have completed primary school, wish to enter grade 6 in Thu Duc City, and have an average score of 9.0 or higher in math and Vietnamese at the end of the year will be eligible to apply.

6 secondary schools organize surveys to recruit 6th grade students

Ho Chi Minh City has 6 schools organizing surveys to enroll 6th grade students for the 2024 - 2025 school year:

Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (District 1); Nguyen An Khuong Secondary School (Hoc Mon District); Hoa Lu Secondary School, Binh Tho Secondary School and Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School (Thu Duc City); Nguyen Huu Tho Secondary School (District 7).
