The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor) has just reported to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the implementation status of the project to dredge, build infrastructure, and improve the environment of the North bank of the Doi Canal.
This is one of the city's key projects, with a total investment of more than 7,300 billion VND, and is scheduled to start construction in 2025.
Thousands of dilapidated houses on Doi Canal, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City will be relocated in the near future to start the Project. |
The project includes the construction of 4.3 km of the North bank embankment combined with dredging part of the canal bed; widening Hoai Thanh and Nguyen Duy streets to 20 m; constructing a new 16 m wide Nguyen Duy extended street (from alley 157 Hung Phu to the Y-shaped bridge) and constructing Hiep An 2 bridge.
Along with the main items, the Project also invests in auxiliary systems such as: rainwater drainage system, wastewater, trees, lighting and construction of inland waterway terminals to serve passengers.
The project has a total investment of more than 7,300 billion VND (including site clearance capital) from the City budget.
Regarding the implementation progress, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board said that Package No. 2 will start construction in September 2025; the remaining packages (No. 1 and No. 3) are expected to be implemented in October 2025.
Currently, the investor is speeding up the preparation of construction drawing design documents and estimates. The goal is to complete the project by 2028.
Regarding compensation and site clearance, the Project has a total of 1,617 affected cases, of which 1,089 cases have agreed to the compensation plan and 104 households have handed over the site.
To date, the District 8 Compensation and Site Clearance Board has received sufficient funds and is implementing payments to affected residents. The site is expected to be handed over in August 2025.
However, to date, the agreement on the method of relocating technical infrastructure has not been completed. The investor requested the Department of Construction and the Department of Agriculture and Environment to provide detailed instructions on the method of compensation for technical infrastructure works to ensure the project's progress as planned.
Accelerating the construction progress to complete the Project by 2028 will solve environmental pollution, improve the drainage system; urban embellishment; and develop waterway traffic.
