In preparation for the 5th working session of the European Commission (EC) Inspection Delegation on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, this morning, the working delegation led by Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Minh Thanh inspected the management and supervision of fishing vessels and fishing activities in Can Gio, Thanh An and An Thoi Dong communes. The delegation also conducted a survey and visited the lives of local fishermen.

At the inspection points, the working group noted the maintenance of journey monitoring equipment, implementation of electronic traceability, as well as the docking and unloading of aquatic products being carried out in accordance with regulations.
According to records in Thanh An island commune - a locality where most of the people live by fishing inshore or making salt - people's lives are still difficult. Currently, the commune has 536 aquaculture households, there is no specialized fishing port; coastal fishing vessels mainly dock at inland waterways, products are consumed locally so economic efficiency is still limited.
Ms. Pham Thi Na - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City, said that in the coming time, the department will expand the issuance of fishing licenses to facilitate fishing activities, contributing to stabilizing people's lives.

He also emphasized that the inspection and traceability of aquatic products must be strictly implemented, ensuring that all fishing vessels operate in accordance with regulations, contributing to removing the IUU "yellow card" in the coming time.
