According to information from Dong Hoa Ward Police (HCMC), on the afternoon of November 5, three teenagers including NHAT (born in 2011), TTK (born in 2009) and NHPK (born in 2010) invited each other to the stone lake area (Tan Hoa quarter, Dong Hoa ward) to swim.

Upon arriving, T. and PK swam from the shore to the small island. Halfway through, T. felt exhausted so he swam back to shore. PK also swam back to shore but was exhausted and sank.
Upon receiving the news, on the morning of November 6, the rescue force of the Fire Fighting and Rescue Team of Area 33 arrived at the scene, coordinating with the Fire Fighting and Rescue Team (also under the Fire Police Department and Rescue Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police) and other forces to search for the victims.

At 11:25 a.m., after about 1 hour of searching, the rescue team found the victim PK and handed over the body to Dong Hoa Ward Police and the victim's family to take care of the funeral.
The victim PK had dropped out of school and was in quite a pitiful situation. His father had passed away, his mother was a worker far away, and he lived with his grandparents in a boarding house in Linh Xuan ward (HCMC).

The stone lake located in the urban area of Ho Chi Minh City National University has beautiful scenery and cool air, so it attracts many students and people to come and admire the scenery every afternoon despite the danger warning. Recently, many similar heartbreaking incidents have occurred here. The authorities have installed fences and placed warning signs to limit people from approaching the edge of the lake, a dangerous area to prevent unfortunate incidents.
The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police continues to advise people, especially children, not to go to this area to bathe, fly kites, camp, fish... to avoid unfortunate accidents.
