The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just approved the sustainable forest management plan for Can Gio protective forest until 2030, by the Ho Chi Minh City Protective and Special-Use Forest Management Board. Ho Chi Minh City aims to protect the intact area of nearly 35,000 hectares of existing forest, continue to maintain forest cover by 2030 at nearly 49%, creating a foundation for conserving forest ecosystems and biodiversity.
The plan aims to effectively and sustainably use protective forest areas; conserve biodiversity; rationally use landscapes and forest environments; develop eco-tourism, share benefits from forests with relevant parties, and contribute to local socio -economic development associated with national defense and security.
Ho Chi Minh City will preserve and promote the value of the Can Gio mangrove biosphere reserve, enhancing the resilience of forests in the context of increasingly complex climate change.

With the orientation of green economic growth in Can Gio, Ho Chi Minh City develops forest environmental services according to regulations, builds the Dan Xay eco-tourism site according to the model green eco-tourism orientation in the mangrove biosphere reserve.
In particular, the city plans to build a mangrove park to meet the sightseeing, relaxation and entertainment needs of Ho Chi Minh City residents.
In addition to protecting the existing forest area, Ho Chi Minh City will maximize the effectiveness of forest protection functions, mitigate natural disasters, respond to climate change, and protect the ecological environment. The quality of planted forests will be improved by appropriate technical measures and in accordance with the law.
In the 2023-2030 period, Ho Chi Minh City will enrich and nurture the quality of about 1,500 hectares of forest.
On the social side, the management of Can Gio protective forest and Can Gio mangrove biosphere reserve is carried out using digital transformation solutions. The city also ensures harmony between biodiversity conservation and improving the livelihoods and quality of life of people participating in forest protection.
In particular, the locality will create jobs and increase income for forestry workers; stabilize livelihoods for the community and maintain political security and social order and safety in coastal areas.
Ho Chi Minh City is determined to minimize negative human impacts on forest protection, development and biodiversity conservation, and raise awareness of sustainable forest management.
