Experience of growing kumquat in Cam Ha soil

At 80 Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, Cam Ha Commune (Hoi An City), more than 30 students from Happy Sky English Center participated in the experience of planting kumquat trees, learning about the traditional profession of this famous kumquat growing village in the Central region.

The students were really excited to see the artisan grafting and shaping the kumquat tree; shoveling soil and fertilizing the kumquat tree themselves. Then they visited the production facility and the display area of kumquat products. The most impressive thing was experiencing and enjoying the products and drinks made from kumquat.

Ngo Thi Thanh Hien - Happy Sky Hoi An English Center shared: "I really like it because I participate in planting trees and making drinks. I know kumquat trees also help quench thirst in the summer, treat coughs, colds and runny noses."

Nicole Dawn - English teacher said: "Today I experienced a very natural, comfortable space and this space is really useful for the students and me too".

Not only with Nicole Dawn, the community tourism model in the traditional kumquat growing village - KumQuat Farm, launched since April 2024, has attracted more than 1,000 visitors to visit and experience, including nearly 800 students and nearly 300 foreign tourists.

To organize the experience point, the Community Tourism Cooperative Group associated with the traditional profession of growing kumquat was established with 6 members who are kumquat growers and manufacturers of kumquat products.

On an area of 1,500 square meters (at 80 Nguyen Chi Thanh Street), visitors can watch artisans graft and shape kumquat trees, experience planting kumquat trees; visit the production facility and display area of kumquat products, experience and enjoy kumquat drinks.

Ms. Phan Thi Ngoc Quy - President of the Farmers' Association of Cam Ha commune said that the Community Tourism Cooperative Group associated with the traditional profession of growing kumquat is a place to create interactive experiences, learn about the culture, customs, habits, and activities of Cam Ha people, build and develop a community tourism model associated with the direct participation of the people.

“Along with the kumquat tree planting experience program, 10 kumquat products are also produced here and visitors can make these products together. Among them, dried kumquat fibers have been recognized as OCOP products and “Nhat Cam tea” is a typical rural agricultural product,” said Ms. Ngoc Quy.

Thereby, building a friendly tourism environment associated with the rural tourism development program in building new rural areas, the program of one product per commune to introduce and promote the traditional profession of growing kumquat trees in Cam Ha, attracting tourists.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuc - The model organizer and owner of the Phuc Nguyen Rose startup project with dozens of rose tea products, said: "Phuc Nguyen Rose started its business with roses, however, on the way to starting a business, I learned that kumquat is a native plant of my hometown, so I wanted to develop kumquat trees and kumquat products through KumQuat Farm. This is a place to learn about the experience of growing kumquat, create more products that are good for health, support farmers with stable output, and contribute to preserving the traditional profession of my hometown".

The community tourism model in the traditional kumquat growing village of Cam Ha commune has just been recognized by the People's Committee of Quang Nam province and announced as the third prize winner in the creative startup ideas and projects in 2024.
