161 curators from 34 countries, including directors, producers, actors, critics, researchers and film festival organizers, voted to select the 118 best films (including tie-breakers) of all time.
Topping the list are two representative filmmakers of Taiwanese cinema: Yang De-chang with A Brighter Summer Day and Hou Hsiao-hsien with A City of Sadness . Right after is the master of Japanese cinema Ozu Yasujiro with Tokyo Story . The remaining positions include: In the Mood for Love (Wong Kar-wai), Aparajito, the Unvanquished (Satyajit Ray), Rashomon (Kurosawa Akira), A One and a Two (Yang De-chang), Parasite (Bong Joon-ho), Close Up (Abbas Kiarostami), and tied for 10th place are Chungking Express (Wong Kar-wai), Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (Apichatpong Weerasethakul).
In the list, Chinese cinema has the most presence with a series of prominent names such as Ang Lee, Zhang Yimou, Jia Zhangke, Chen Kaige... besides Korea (Kim Ki-duk, Park Chan-wook, Hong Sang-soo...), Japan (Hayao Miyazaki, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Hamaguchi Ryusuke...) and Iran (Asghar Farhadi, Mohsen Makhmalbaf...).
Vietnamese cinema is present with two works at position 88: Cyclo (Tran Anh Hung) and Inside the Golden Cocoon (Pham Thien An).
