Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên15/08/2024

Last night, August 14 (July 11 of the lunar calendar), at Vietnam National Temple, the lotus lantern launching ceremony for the Vu Lan festival of filial piety took place.
Over the past few days, monks, nuns, and Buddhists have wholeheartedly and respectfully recited the Vu Lan Bao Hieu Sutra and the Muc Lien Sam Phap Sutra. Each filial heart has lit up the peaceful and pure light of the Vu Lan Bao Hieu ceremony. It is also a great source of energy created from the filial heart, filial piety, and filial piety of Buddhists, together with prayers for national peace and prosperity. Before the Lien Dang ceremony began, hundreds of people sat solemnly reciting sutras and performing ceremonies with the monks. Everyone was given flower lanterns with the meaning that each lighted lamp is a prayer, a kind thought sent to relatives and humanity.

"The Vu Lan ceremony is to express the spirit of filial piety as well as remember those who sacrificed for great things. Buddhists all come here to remember their grandparents and parents because everyone has ancestors and roots. The Buddha taught great filial piety to Maudgalyayana, for the sake of his mother, to invite the Buddhas of the ten directions, to pray for his mother to escape from sadness. The Buddha taught that during the Vu Lan season, one must repay filial piety, some people can do it but some people cannot. Therefore, everyone should recite Buddha's name so that the deceased can go to the Pure Land of Amitabha Buddha, wholeheartedly turning to ancestors and grandparents...", said Venerable Thich Minh Thong.
