Previously, on October 4th, infant YM (5 days old, residing in Thuong Trach commune) was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Upon examination, doctors discovered that the child had a perforated stomach and severe sepsis.
According to family members, the child was born naturally at home, without any assistance from local medical services . Afterward, the family fed the child rice from the very first day after birth.
After discovering the child was having difficulty breathing, a high fever, and abdominal distension, the family took the child to the emergency room at the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi. Doctors there determined that the child had a bacterial infection due to a perforated stomach caused by eating rice.
The child then underwent emergency surgery to treat the injury, along with treatment with strong antibiotics and intravenous nutrition. After 23 days of intensive treatment, YM's health recovered and she was discharged from the hospital.
