5-day-old baby has stomach perforation from eating rice

A 5-day-old baby in Quang Tri suffered a perforated stomach after being fed by his mother. After 23 days of surgery and treatment, the baby recovered and was discharged from the hospital.

On October 27, information from the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi ( Quang Tri ) said that doctors at the Pediatrics Department successfully treated a 5-day-old newborn with a perforated stomach due to eating rice.

After 23 days of treatment, YM recovered and was discharged from the hospital.

Previously, on October 4, patient YM (5 days old, residing in Thuong Trach commune) was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Upon examination, doctors discovered that the child had a perforated stomach and severe sepsis.

According to the family, the baby was born naturally at home, without the assistance of local medical staff . The family then fed the baby rice from the first day of birth.

After discovering that the child had difficulty breathing, high fever, and bloating, the family took the child to the emergency room at the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi and doctors determined that the child had an infection due to a perforated stomach from eating rice.

The patient then underwent emergency surgery to treat the injury, and was treated with strong antibiotics, combined with intravenous nutrition. After 23 days of intensive treatment, YM's health recovered and he was discharged from the hospital.
