(sonla.gov.vn) In recent years, the work of developing and applying science and technology has continued to receive attention and direction, achieving many important results.

Research and application of science and technology in the province have been comprehensively deployed in many fields and gradually gone into depth, with high applicability in production and life. By the end of 2025, 84 science and technology tasks have been deployed, including: 03 projects under the Mountainous Rural Program, 01 urgent local topic at the national level and 80 science and technology tasks at the provincial level. By September 2025, 38 provincial science and technology tasks had been accepted; the results of 27 tasks had been handed over to agencies and units for practical application. The proportion of digital economy in GRDP in 2021 - 2024 was 5.74%, 6.42%, 6.85% and 6.76% respectively. Through research tasks, application of science and technology, many valuable crop and livestock varieties have been selected and put into production, suitable for local climate and soil conditions; concentrated agricultural commodity production areas have been formed for export, especially specialized fruit growing areas. Topics in the fields of social sciences, health, and education have provided scientific and practical bases for the work of formulating policies and strategies for socio-economic development. The work of formulating and protecting intellectual property rights for key products has been promoted.

By the end of September 2025, the whole province had 31 products bearing geographical names granted protection certificates by the Intellectual Property Office, of which 02 products were granted protection certificates abroad. Intellectual property protection contributes to increasing product value, expanding domestic and foreign consumption markets, promoting local economic development, improving income and life for people, especially in remote areas, remote areas, and ethnic minority areas. Establishing the Son La Provincial Center for Innovation and Startup Support on the basis of reorganizing the Center for Information and Application of Science and Technology under the Department of Science and Technology. After merging the Department of Science and Technology and the Department of Information and Communications from March 2025, the Center changed its name to the Center for Innovation and Creativity. In the period of 2020 - 2025, the Center has implemented activities to support startups and innovation, with activities such as: Statistics, propaganda on science and technology ; organizing training courses to raise awareness and startup skills; surveying, collecting information and needs of businesses and cooperatives in the field of startup innovation. Maintaining the operation of the Research, application and transfer of scientific and technological advances in agriculture and forestry in Moc Chau district, thereby contributing to improving the capacity to access and apply science and technology in local production development.
