Attending the meeting were representatives of leaders of units under the Ministry including the Departments of Organization and Personnel, Financial Planning, Science and Technology, International Cooperation and the Ministry Office.
Reporting at the meeting, Director of the Institute of Environmental, Marine and Island Sciences Nguyen Le Tuan said that the Institute is currently implementing 2 state-level scientific research projects and 2 ministerial-level scientific research projects. In 2024, the Institute was approved to implement 1 ministerial-level scientific research project and 2 grassroots-level scientific research projects.
Regarding professional tasks, the Institute is implementing 5 transitional tasks and projects; 4 newly opened tasks and projects have had their lists approved and submitted for approval of explanations and estimates.
Regarding international cooperation, the Institute is leading the Vietnam component of the regional project “Reducing the use and emission of chemicals, including persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in the textile sector” funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
In addition, implementing the Project "Implementing the Strategic Action Program in the East Sea and the Gulf of Thailand" funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to implement the Strategic Action Program on the East Sea.
Continue to implement the Non-Project "Support for equipment for investigation, survey and analysis of ocean plastic waste from the Japanese government". The Non-Project was implemented from the end of 2020. Currently, the Institute is submitting to the Ministry's leaders for approval to adjust the implementation of the Non-Project. It is expected that by the end of 2023, the Institute will receive the first 8 machines, and in early 2024, it will receive all the equipment; carry out the transfer and training at the end of 2024, and put into operation the equipment system of the Non-Project sponsored by the Japanese government to serve the research on ocean and marine plastic waste.
In addition, implementing the Letter of Intent on cooperation in marine waste management signed between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam and the Ministry of Environment of Japan, the Institute participated in a joint survey between Vietnam and Japan on marine plastic waste; training courses to enhance capacity in surveying and analyzing plastic waste.
Regarding the tasks expected to be implemented in the last months of 2023, Director Nguyen Le Tuan said that, in addition to perfecting the organizational structure, the Institute will organize the acceptance of 2 professional tasks and 1 ministerial-level scientific research topic to be completed in 2023; explain, complete the explanation and estimate of new tasks and topics opened in 2024.

At the meeting, representatives of the leaders of the units under the Ministry who attended also gave positive assessments, affirming the achievements of the Institute in the past time, and at the same time affirmed that they will strengthen close coordination with the unit in the process of implementing assigned tasks in the coming time, especially in the work of perfecting the organization, equipment, appraisal, and submission for approval of new tasks and topics in 2024.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Minh Ngan acknowledged the efforts of the collective of leaders, officials and employees of the Institute of Environmental, Sea and Island Sciences in perfecting the organizational structure, implementing scientific and technological topics, professional tasks and international cooperation in the past time.
The Deputy Minister said that the field of scientific research on the environment, seas and islands is very important in serving the State management in this field. Therefore, the Deputy Minister requested that the Institute should soon study training and establish a scientific journal to raise the position of the Institute.
Regarding the tasks in the coming time, the Deputy Minister requested that the Institute urgently coordinate with the units of the Ministry in perfecting the organization and apparatus, building and implementing topics and tasks of scientific research on environmental resources, seas and islands...
