Yonhap reported that North Korea test-fired a strategic cruise missile from sea to land on October 28, before US President Donald Trump arrived in South Korea to attend the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
According to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), they detected the missile launch at 3 p.m. on October 28, adding that detailed technical specifications are being analyzed by South Korean and US intelligence agencies.
"The South Korean military is maintaining a full readiness posture to strongly respond to any North Korean provocations while closely monitoring various North Korean moves in a solid combined defense posture with the US," the JCS said in a statement.

The cruise missile, modified for ship-launching, was fired vertically and flew for more than 7,800 seconds along a predetermined course over the Yellow Sea to destroy the target, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said. North Korea did not disclose further details, including the flight distance.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un did not oversee the test launch. State media, including the Rodong Sinmun, did not report on the latest missile launch.
Pak Jong Chon, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea, said North Korea has made important achievements in putting its nuclear force on a "realistic basis." He called for the need to continuously upgrade North Korea's combat capabilities.
The latest missile launch marked the first time North Korea has launched a cruise missile in five months.
The launch took place in the context of President Trump expressing his desire to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un when the White House boss visits South Korea from October 29-30 to attend the APEC summit. However, North Korea has not responded to this proposal.
