With the propaganda and mobilization of the commune's agricultural extension officers, in 2024, Mr. Lo Lao Ta's family in Phin Ngan village, Trinh Tuong commune boldly converted part of the corn-growing land area to grow more than 100 passion fruit trees.
Mr. Ta said that although it is a new crop for people in the highlands, passion fruit does not require much technical or care work. Thanks to strictly following the instructions of the commune's agricultural extension officers, Mr. Ta's passion fruit garden is growing quite well and is ready for harvest. Because it is the first crop, Mr. Ta's family does not have high expectations for the yield and income from this crop. However, in the long term, he is very hopeful about the economic efficiency of passion fruit in the coming time.
“When planting passion fruit trees, my family was supported with seeds, fertilizers, and trellises; during the planting process, the staff came to give detailed instructions on planting and care techniques, so my family was very excited. Although it has only been planted for a few months, the trees have already produced fruit, and each tree has produced dozens of fruits in the first crop,” Mr. Ta added.
Implementing the "Fruit tree planting model" under content No. 1 of Sub-project 2 (Project 3) of National Target Program 1719; Trinh Tuong commune selected Phin Ngan village to plant passion fruit trees with an area of 06 hectares; the total cost of implementing the project is over 1 billion VND; of which, the State supports nearly 500 million, the rest is contributed by the people. The households participating in the project are all ethnic minorities, poor and near-poor households of the commune.
To participate in the Project, households must have a concentrated land area of at least 0.1 ha or more; write a voluntary application and sign a written commitment to comply with the conditions of participation in the project and be confirmed by the local authorities...

Mr. Nguyen Van Luc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phin Ngan Commune, said: For a poor commune like Trinh Tuong, resources from the National Target Program 1719 play a very important role in consolidating rural infrastructure; as well as promoting production development, increasing income for the people. Particularly for capital to support production, Trinh Tuong Commune chose to plant passion fruit (06ha), Tam Hoa plum (14ha) and bamboo shoots (08ha) with a total capital of nearly 4 billion VND.
“These are crops that can adapt to the climate, soil conditions, and farming skills of the people in the commune. In order for the people’s production to be as effective as desired, we have asked businesses to sign a commitment to support with seeds, techniques, etc. and especially to sign a commitment with households to purchase products upon harvest,” Mr. Luc emphasized.
In order to achieve the goal of building a new rural area, Trinh Tuong commune has only achieved 8/19 criteria so far; one of the criteria that has not been achieved and is facing many difficulties is income. Therefore, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in the commune are expecting that resources from the National Target Program 1719 on production support will contribute to improving and increasing income for people through introducing new varieties of plants and animals with high economic value into production and animal husbandry.
