Giving an overview of the tradition and some basic features of the unit's organization and operations, Lieutenant Colonel Le Cong Danh, Regiment Commander, said that Regiment 5 was established on May 31, 1965 in Ba Hao forest, Duong Minh Chau district; it was one of the first main regiments to be born on the battlefield of the Southeast region.

Regiment 5 gives gifts to disadvantaged policy families in Suoi Da commune, Duong Minh Chau district.

Over 60 years of building, fighting and growing up, generations of cadres and soldiers of the regiment have overcome countless difficulties, hardships and sacrifices, achieving many outstanding feats in the resistance war against the US to save the country; protecting the southwestern border, performing international duties to help Cambodia and building and protecting the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam in the current period.

With its achievements, Regiment 5 was twice honored by the Party and State with the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces; was awarded the traditional eight words "Overcoming all difficulties, continuously winning" by the Regional Command; was awarded the "Angkor Medal" and "Fatherland Protection Medal" by the Cambodian State; was awarded 3 Liberation Military Exploit Medals and dozens of First, Second, Third Class Liberation Exploit Medals by the State and the Ministry of National Defense and many other noble awards.

On this occasion, the delegation of officers and soldiers of the Regiment organized many activities such as: cleaning, burning incense at the Martyrs Cemetery of Duong Minh Chau district; visiting and giving gifts to families in difficult circumstances, families with meritorious services to the revolution.
