Hai Phong City Center for Disease Control and Cao Bang Province exchanged and shared experiences in tobacco harm prevention.

On the afternoon of November 14, a working delegation of the Hai Phong City Center for Disease Control led by Doctor CKII Dong Trung Kien - Director of the Center visited and worked at the Cao Bang Provincial Center for Disease Control to discuss and share experiences in implementing activities of the program to prevent and combat the harmful effects of tobacco. Receiving and working with the delegation were comrade Be Thi Bach - Director of the Cao Bang Provincial Center for Disease Control and leaders and officials related to the departments and offices of the Center.

At the meeting, the representative of the Department of Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases, Cao Bang Provincial Center for Disease Control introduced the general characteristics of the situation and population size of Cao Bang province, introduced the organizational structure and reported on the outstanding results in implementing the tobacco harm prevention program of Cao Bang Provincial Center for Disease Control.

From 2024 to 2025, the Cao Bang Provincial Center for Disease Control organized 32 direct communication sessions on tobacco harm prevention and control at educational institutions with the participation of 11,250 teachers and students; trained more than 200 teachers on skills to integrate tobacco harm prevention and control content into extracurricular activities. Organized over 20 training courses for many target groups, including : members of the Women's Union, police officers, members of the Farmers' Association and village health workers... to improve understanding of the harmful effects of tobacco and skills in propagating and enforcing the Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control at the grassroots level.

The delegation visited the facilities and equipment at the Department of Paraclinical Medicine - Cao Bang Provincial Center for Disease Control.

In addition, promote communication activities on mass media, with 40 TVspots, 2 reports and more than 40 news and special articles ; at the same time, distribute thousands of products with communication messages such as : pa calendars, raincoats... to agencies, schools and communities, contributing to spreading the message of preventing the harmful effects of tobacco and raising awareness among the people.

In 2024 , the province also conducted an investigation and assessment of the current status of tobacco use in the area . The investigation showed that the rate of smokers decreased to 20.3%, lower than previous years and the national average. The network of collaborators continues to be improved. Currently, there are 50 collaborators in the province supporting the effective implementation of tobacco harm prevention activities at the grassroots level.

Also during the meeting, Dr. Dong Trung Kien - Director of the Hai Phong City Center for Disease Control, briefly informed about the characteristics of the situation, population size and organizational structure of the Hai Phong City Center for Disease Control after the merger and implementation of the 2-level local government model. At the same time, he shared the outstanding results in the work of preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco in the locality.

Every year, the Center develops and implements communication plans, organizes activities in response to World No Tobacco Day, distributes documents , conducts direct communication in communities and schools , and conducts research and evaluates smoking rates. According to the 2025 survey results, before the merger, the smoking rate in Hai Phong was about 20%, Hai Duong was over 12%.

Through the exchange and experience sharing, the Centers for Disease Control of the two provinces will study and refer to effective models and methods to continue improving the quality of tobacco harm prevention work in the locality in the coming time.

Previously, on the afternoon of November 13, a working delegation from the Hai Phong City Center for Disease Control visited and worked at the Dam Thuy Commune Health Station to discuss and share experiences on activities to prevent and combat the harmful effects of tobacco at the grassroots health care level.
