The decision takes effect from September 22, 2025. Before being appointed by the Prime Minister to the position of Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Lieutenant General Le Quang Dao was Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard, member of the National Defense and Security Committee of the National Assembly of Vietnam, and a delegate of the 15th National Assembly of Vietnam.
Lieutenant General Le Quang Dao's career: In March 1989, he enlisted as a soldier of the Border Guard of Ha Nam Ninh province (formerly). In September 1990, he was a student at the Border Guard University (now the Border Guard Academy).
In September 1993, he went to the Lang Son border, marking his military career with 27 consecutive years of service on the Lang Son Border Guard. At that time, he was the Captain of the Border Guard Team of Thanh Loa Border Guard Station, Lang Son Provincial Border Guard Command.
In January 1995, he was Deputy Station Chief of Coc Nam Station, Tan Thanh Border Guard Station, Lang Son Provincial Border Guard Command. In December 1999, he was a student at the Border Guard University (now the Border Guard Academy). In June 2001, he was Assistant of Operations, Staff Office, Lang Son Provincial Border Guard Command.
In September 2004, he was appointed as Deputy Commander of the Huu Nghi International Border Gate Border Guard Station, concurrently Head of the Huu Nghi International Border Gate Border Control Station. In July 2008, he was appointed as Head of the Tan Thanh Border Gate Border Guard Station, Lang Son Provincial Border Guard Command.
In April 2011, he held the position of Deputy Chief of Staff of the Border Guard Command of Lang Son Province. In November 2011, he was Chief of Staff of the Border Guard Command of Lang Son Province.
From February to July 2012, he was a student at the Army Academy. In August 2016, he was Deputy Commander of the Border Guard Command of Lang Son Province. From March to December 2018, he was a student at the National Defense Academy.
On August 27, 2018, at the Lang Son Provincial Border Guard Command, a conference on personnel work was held. Accordingly, the Ministry of National Defense decided to appoint Colonel Le Quang Dao, Deputy Commander, to the position of Commander of the Lang Son Provincial Border Guard.
In January 2020, he was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Vietnam Border Guard.
On August 6, 2020, at the 15th Congress of Delegates of the Vietnam Border Guard Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term, he was elected to the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Border Guard Party Committee and was elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Border Guard Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.
On September 11, 2020, in Decision 1398/QD-TTg, the Prime Minister appointed Colonel Le Quang Dao to hold the position of Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Border Guard, Ministry of National Defense. At the same time, he was later promoted to the rank of Major General by President Nguyen Phu Trong.
On September 23, 2020, the Party Committee of the Border Guard Command held a conference to hand over the responsibilities and tasks of the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Border Guard.
One year later, on October 23, 2021, he was appointed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to hold the position of Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard. On September 20, 2024, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General by President To Lam.
