Hanoi University of Industry becomes the 12th University of Vietnam

GD&TĐ - The Government has just issued a Decision to recognize Hanoi University of Industry as a University.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long has just signed Decision No. 2536/QD-TTg dated November 20, 2025 on converting Hanoi University of Industry into Hanoi University of Industry. Hanoi University of Industry currently has more than 1,400 staff and lecturers and trains about 35,000 students.

Hanoi University of Industry is a public service unit under the Ministry of Industry and Trade; has legal status, its own seal and account. The University is under the state management of education of the Ministry of Education and Training , and under the state management of the Hanoi People's Committee.

Hanoi University of Industry reorganizes its organizational structure and operations on the basis of Hanoi University of Industry according to the provisions of the Law on Higher Education and relevant legal provisions.

The Government requested the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Hanoi City to supervise the school's university conversion process to ensure transparency, no negativity, loss or waste of finance and assets, and no impact on the rights and interests of students and lecturers.

Previously, in January 2025, Hanoi University of Industry completed the goal of establishing 5 schools, as a premise to change from "university" to "university" including: School of Information and Communication Technology, School of Electricity - Electronics, School of Foreign Languages ​​- Tourism, School of Mechanics - Automobile, School of Economics.

According to statistics, our country currently has 12 universities including: Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Thai Nguyen University, Hue University, Da Nang University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, National Economics University, Duy Tan University, Phenikaa University, Can Tho University and Hanoi University of Industry.

Decree 99/2019 of the Government stipulates that establishments wishing to convert from colleges to universities must ensure three conditions: be assessed by a legal accreditation organization as meeting quality standards; have at least three schools and 10 doctoral training majors, with a full-time student population of over 15,000; be approved by the direct management agency and investors. Schools affiliated to universities must also ensure that they have at least 1,000 students, train at least five majors, and have at least three doctoral training majors.
