Nurturing the teacher-student relationship
Amidst the vast Trường Sơn mountain range, the joy of going to school for Avương students is not only about learning to read and write, but also about receiving comprehensive care and attention from teachers and friends. The three core values of "love, safety, and respect" have become the guiding principles in the teaching and learning activities of schools in the area.
From its former dilapidated location, Bhalêê Ethnic Boarding Primary School (Avương commune) has now been renovated and upgraded with modern facilities including classrooms, boarding facilities, common areas, and teacher housing. The school grounds are covered with shade trees, flowerbeds, and playgrounds, creating a friendly environment for students to exercise and relax after school.

The school currently has nearly 120 disadvantaged students who receive support under Government Decree No. 66, along with other social resources to help them focus on their studies. Besides ensuring school meals, the school flexibly organizes extracurricular activities, including clubs for gong dance, football, badminton, aerobics, etc., while also maintaining regular health check-ups for students.
“I’m happy to go to class every day. The teachers are like parents, they love us very much. In many lessons, the teachers even show us illustrations and play quizzes, so I really enjoy it,” said Bling Thi To Nhu, a student in class 4/2 at Bhalêê Ethnic Boarding Primary School.
Mr. Tran Huu Nhat, Principal of Bhalee Ethnic Boarding Primary School, said that the school always focuses on life skills education and creates opportunities for students to showcase their abilities. During the rainy and cold season, teachers mobilize support in the form of warm clothes and blankets to help the children overcome difficulties. "The smiles of the students are the happiness of the teachers," Mr. Nhat said.
Towards holistic education
In addition to innovating teaching methods, schools in Avuong also focus on caring for the psychological well-being of their students. The "Speech Box" model, Friday evening activities, and "Talking with Teachers" sessions are maintained weekly to help understand the feelings and provide timely support to students with special circumstances, preventing them from dropping out of school.

Mr. Luu Van Khuong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Avuong commune, said that the commune currently has three levels of education from preschool to junior high school with more than 1,200 students and 118 teachers. Each school implements the "Happy School" model in its own way, but all aim for three core values. This is a practical model that helps connect teachers and students and build a friendly educational environment in the border region.
A significant highlight in Avuong's educational development in recent times is the commencement of construction of a multi-level boarding school for primary and secondary levels on an area of over 7 hectares, with a total investment of 293 billion VND.
The project includes a multi-purpose building, a library, student and teacher dormitories, and integrated infrastructure. This is not just a school construction project, but also opens up opportunities to narrow the educational gap between the border region and other localities of Da Nang ; laying the foundation for training future human resources from ethnic minorities.
“The local government has identified education as a sustainable investment. Along with the attention from the central government and the city, Avuong commune regularly coordinates with schools to upgrade facilities and mobilize resources to support poor students and children from ethnic minorities,” Mr. Khuong shared.
The schools in the border commune of Avuong today are sporting a brighter, cleaner, warmer appearance, filled with the laughter of students. Each day at school has become a journey of sowing seeds of happiness, where teachers and students nurture dreams together amidst the mountains and forests of the border region.
