Students want to be loved
At the discussion in the program, Nguyen Ha Chi, student 8A6, Tran Duy Hung Secondary School, said that a happy school is where she and her friends have happy moments with friends and teachers, can study, practice physical and mental health, be loved, respected and be themselves.
Ha Chi hopes that when students go to school, they will not be afraid of anyone's judgment so they can express themselves in activities.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha, Principal of My Dinh High School, shared that the school she manages is only 5 years old. When it first started operating, it encountered many difficulties, from lack of facilities to lack of teachers. Up to now, although there are more than a thousand students and 47 classes, there are only less than 50 staff and teachers, showing that there are still many difficulties and challenges.
“Happiness in school does not come from the efforts of any individual but requires the cooperation of everyone,” said Ms. Ha.
With that viewpoint, the teachers and students of the school have together built a green, clean, beautiful school space with creative space. In which, the relationships between teachers and students, teachers and parents are accompanied and connected, preventing school violence from happening.
Previously, the school only invited parents to participate in activities as witnesses, but recently the project has been promoted to include parents in class. That is, parents are invited to participate in life skills and career guidance classes to understand each other.

Dr. Nguyen Ngoc An, Chairman of the Vietnam Education Trade Union, said that in reality, there are principals who are very confused and do not know how to run the school when the teachers are overwhelmed and the students are not really trying to study. After a period of implementing the happy school model, there have been clear changes. Teachers are equipped with skills to overcome difficulties, have positive emotions, overcome barriers to innovation, and are more confident.
According to Mr. An, in the capital Hanoi last school year, there were still incidents happening in some schools, which certainly must be promoted and changed to build a safe and friendly learning environment.
"A school is like a house. Even if it is big and beautiful, the children may not be happy if the teachers and parents do not know how to manage and transform their emotions in the face of situations. Therefore, it is necessary to equip teachers with skills so that they are confident and ready to handle events and situations in school and class," said Mr. An.
The risk of school violence is still latent.
Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, Tran The Cuong, hopes that teachers at schools will build a learning environment so that every student will feel joy, safety and respect when coming to school; every teacher will be supported to carry out the educational mission with all their heart; and every parent will feel secure when their children study in an environment filled with love.
According to Mr. Cuong, incidents such as students physically abusing a teacher at Dai Kim Secondary School, students fighting in Soc Son, etc., are isolated incidents, of the nature of "one bad apple spoiling the barrel".
However, Hanoi has a very large number of schools, the risk of school violence is still latent, especially when students are influenced by social networks, violent video games...
In the coming time, the Hanoi Department of Education will continue to develop a skills training program for teachers, including skills in handling situations and understanding student psychology to help teachers become more confident.
Hanoi also identifies the role of psychological counselors in schools as very important, able to share and support students and teachers in relieving pressure in studying and life. In reality, this is currently mainly done by teachers. In the coming time, the industry will propose job positions, staff structure according to professional titles and set the number of people working for the position of school psychological counselor.
In addition, schools strengthen moral education and lifestyle programs for students.
Regarding Circular 19 of the Ministry of Education and Training regulating student discipline, Mr. Cuong said that in the past, when students wrote badly or violated school or class rules, teachers would hit them on the hand or force them to face the wall. However, education has changed, focusing on students, being humane, and disciplinary measures are also aimed at helping them change. During the discussion, students expressed their wish that they would be loved and respected when they go to school.
In teaching, teachers and administrators need to set good examples for students to follow, using beauty to overcome ugliness.
"However, moral education for students cannot be done well by schools alone. It requires the joint role of both families and society," said Mr. Cuong.
After a year of implementing the emulation movement to build “Happy Schools”, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training assessed that schools have changed significantly. Hanoi continues to replicate the model to all schools across the city in the period 2025-2030.
