Fostering love of traditional art for the young generation
Since the beginning of 2025, many schools in the province have proactively connected and brought students to visit the Theater, such as: Vo Xan Primary School No. 2 (Tay Son Commune); Nhon Phu Primary School (Quy Nhon Bac Ward); Quang Trung Primary School;FPT Long Van Primary, Secondary and High School (Quy Nhon Nam Ward) ...
Accordingly, the children were able to visit the Traditional Room; listen to the history of the formation and development of the Theater; learn about costumes, props, Tuong masks, the history and contributions of the late founder of Tuong art - Dao Tan; and be introduced to the art of Bai Choi...
Many students were passionate about the tour, actively taking notes and asking questions to the artists to better understand the beauty of Tuong art. Tran Manh Hung (class 7A11, Le Hong Phong Secondary School, Quy Nhon Ward) shared: “Through the exchange, I learned more about the people who have preserved and promoted these two traditional art forms. When I watched the artists and actors immerse themselves on stage, I felt that traditional art is so close and worthy of respect.”
In particular, the experience of painting Tuong masks created an exciting atmosphere, aroused creative passion, and helped students develop their painting talent.
In addition, the Theater also diligently "knocked on the door" of each school to kindle in the students' hearts the love of national art. At each school, artists and artisans illustrated the basic melodies in the art of Bai Choi opera such as: Xuan Nu, Co Ban, Xang Xe, Ho Quang; illustrated and introduced the beauty and uniqueness of the art of Tuong and Bai Choi...
Sharing directly with the students, Meritorious Artist Duong Nu Thuy Dung - Head of the Bai Choi Opera Troupe - said: "We do not simply introduce but also tell stories and interact to attract the children to listen to traditional art. For young people, especially students, it is important to communicate in a familiar, easy-to-understand and lively language to be able to sow the love of art in their hearts."
…I love the traditional art of my hometown
Currently, Gia Lai has the Provincial Traditional Arts Theater with two professional art troupes, Dao Tan Tuong Troupe and Bai Choi Ca Kich Troupe. In addition, many localities also maintain amateur art troupes and folk Bai Choi clubs.
From that foundation, the model "I love traditional arts club" was coordinated by the Theater to be implemented in a number of schools, aiming to bring traditional arts closer to students, such as: Hoai Chau Secondary School, Nhon Thanh Secondary School, Quang Trung Secondary School, Ngo May Secondary School, Hai Cang Secondary School, Le Quy Don Specialized High School... initially reaped positive results.

From the activities, many students have revealed their love and talent for the stage. Practicing the excerpt “Trung Vuong De Co” for a few days, Nguyen Le Phuong Yen (class 9A1, Hoai Chau Secondary School, Tam Quan Ward) surprised the audience when she performed the role of Trung Trac perfectly from gestures to demeanor, exuding the strong, resilient spirit of Vietnamese women.
Yen shared: “This is one of the most active clubs in the school, so every time it meets, I look forward to it and participate wholeheartedly. Being on stage and playing a role makes me love art more, want to learn and try many other roles.”
Mr. Vo Van Thoi, Principal of Hoai Chau Secondary School, said: “The school encourages students to collect and put new lyrics to familiar melodies, compose folk songs and participate in extracurricular activities. To date, teachers and students have composed more than 100 folk songs; applying the knowledge they have learned to create performances and art programs for the class and the school.”
At Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, the Literature Group has developed a long-term coordination plan with the Theater Association (Provincial Literature and Arts Association) and the Theater since the first year of implementing the 2018 General Education Program. According to Mr. Tran Ha Nam - Head of the Literature Group, through experiential learning sessions, students of the specialized and social science groups and teachers have direct access and in-depth understanding of everything from scripts to plays; and have been demonstrated, guided and directly taught by veteran artists.
Excerpts such as “Quang Trung ascends the throne”, “Trung Vuong raises the flag”, or excerpts from the bai choi opera “Mr. Husband - Mrs. Captain”, “Friendship”… have created special appeal. With the dedicated guidance of the artists, the students’ performances have brought moments of sublimation and created a widespread influence.

Meritorious Artist Huynh Thi Kim Chau, Deputy Director of the Provincial Traditional Arts Theatre, said: “Experiential exchange activities are the way we sow seeds, nurture and discover early artistic talents. This is also the basis for forming a successor human resource for the Theatre, contributing to preserving and promoting the traditional artistic values of the province in the coming time.”
