Over the years, although unable to be present regularly due to geographical distance, UGVB has still regularly organized volunteer activities, especially focusing on supporting sustainable livelihoods for poor families in remote areas, places that are often heavily affected by natural disasters and floods.
With a heart always turned towards the future generation, the General Association gives special priority to children. Through programs such as “Rice with Meat” or “Friends for Vietnamese Kids”, children in difficult circumstances are supported to go to school with small gifts full of love: new school bags, warm clothes, books with the scent of new paper.
In particular, after the severe flash floods in the northern mountainous provinces at the end of 2024, UGVB raised 4,205 euros. This amount was converted into cash and in-kind support for Khanh Yen Thuong commune, Van Ban district, Lao Cai province, where many households are in particularly difficult circumstances.

Children aged 4-5 years old at Ban Phung kindergarten (part of Khanh Yen Thuong Primary School) were given new desks, wardrobes, bicycles, water purifiers, and school supplies. Their families were also given rice cookers and livestock such as pigs and chickens to help restore their livelihoods after the disaster. These practical supports come from the love and responsibility of the overseas Vietnamese community.
That journey would not have been possible without the dedication of Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong, Head of the UGVB Community Committee. Regardless of the dangerous road, she and her family and friends went directly to the place to deliver the gifts to the people. It was not just a simple act of charity, but a deep and lasting companionship of the children of Vietnam who always yearn for their homeland.

Ms. Phuong is not the only one. Over the past 10 years, UGVB has become a common home, a place of solidarity and love for the Vietnamese community in Belgium. In addition to volunteer activities, the General Association also preserves and spreads Vietnamese culture through Vietnamese language teaching programs, organizing Lunar New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, and especially fundraising campaigns to support soldiers and people in Truong Sa and DK platforms.
From the simple desks in the highlands to the sacred love in Europe, there is an invisible but strong thread that is extending the bridge of humanity. In hardship, love shines brighter. And in the hearts of those far away, the homeland is always the most sacred thing.
