Báo Tổ quốcBáo Tổ quốc12/10/2024

Ehon Week was first held in 2023, in a series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan, with the participation of more than 1,000 readers. Following that success, Ehon Week 2024 returned under the auspices of the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, with the theme "Animals".

This year's event will display 100 original Japanese Ehon picture books and Vietnamese versions, helping children freely explore interesting books. The works on display are selected by VBBY - the International Book Council for Children in Vietnam, ensuring diversity in content, age, and richness in illustrations. Ehon is not only for children who can read, but also suitable for children who cannot read, helping them perceive the world through images and stories told by adults. Parents coming to the exhibition will have the opportunity to experience reading with their children, at the same time opening up a new perspective on the Ehon picture book genre.

On the Vietnamese side, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hien - Founder of the Bridge Fund; Director of More Production Vietnam Co., Ltd.; Head of the Organizing Committee said: "I hope that from now on, every year there will be a week like this so that many children have the opportunity to read books. This is also a way to spread awareness so that everyone knows and the whole society pays attention to reading books to children from a young age."

Representative of Thai Ha Books Company, Ms. Bui Sao said: “When choosing the copyright of Ehon comics to translate into Vietnamese, many criteria are used to ensure that the selected books not only meet educational needs but are also suitable for the culture and interests of Vietnamese people. The stories must convey messages of educational and humanistic value, and must be suitable for the psychology and culture of Vietnamese people. Because Ehon comics are aimed at young children, the language used must be clear, easy to understand and pure to help children learn without feeling pressured”./.
