Sentencing of a group of officials who 'carved up' public land into private land in Dong Nai

On June 16, the People's Court of Long Thanh District ( Dong Nai ) sentenced 7 defendants in the case of "carving up" public land into private land, causing damage to the State of nearly 20 billion VND.

The Long Thanh District People's Court sentenced the defendants for "Lack of responsibility causing serious consequences". Of which, Nguyen Van Be (former cadastral officer of Binh Son commune, Long Thanh district) was sentenced to 4 years in prison; Tran Quoc Tuan (former Chairman of Binh Son commune People's Committee) was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison; Nguyen Quang Thao (former official of the statistical registration team, Provincial Land Registration Office, Long Thanh district branch) was sentenced to 3 years in prison.

Defendant Le Quoc Dat (former Deputy Director of the Dong Nai Provincial Land Registration Office, Long Thanh District Branch) was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison; Bui Van Hong (former official of the surveying team, the Provincial Land Registration Office, Long Thanh District Branch) to 2 years and 6 months in prison; Duong Thi Duyen (former specialist of the Long Thanh District Department of Natural Resources and Environment) to 2 years in prison but given a suspended sentence with a probationary period of 4 years; Nguyen Hoang Nghia (40 years old, former Head of the Long Thanh District Department of Natural Resources and Environment) to 2 years of non-custodial reform.

In the verdict, the Trial Council recommended considering signs of omission of crimes against former Vice Chairman of Long Thanh District People's Committee Nguyen Tan Hung and a number of leaders and employees of the Land Registration Office of Dong Nai Province, Long Thanh District branch such as Mr. Dang Anh Ngoc (former official of the surveying team), Le Minh Tan (former head of the surveying team), Duong Van Nhat (former Deputy Director)...

According to the indictment of the provincial People's Procuracy, the above group of officials advised the People's Committee of Long Thanh district to sign and issue the first land use right certificate in 2017 for 2 plots of land with an area of ​​over 20,000 m2 to Ms. Le Thi Tho and Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan (residing in Long Thanh district) in violation of the law.
