
On the afternoon of November 5, the draw ceremony for the final round of the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship took place in Jakarta (Indonesia).
According to the results, the Vietnamese futsal team is in Group B with the current runner-up Thailand, Kuwait and Lebanon. This is a group that is considered challenging but also opens up opportunities for coach Diego Giustozzi and his team.
In the other groups, host Indonesia is in Group A, along with Iraq, Kyrgyzstan and South Korea. Meanwhile, defending champions Iran are in Group D with Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. The two teams that finished third and fourth in the previous tournament, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, are in the same group with Japan and Australia.

The 2026 AFC Futsal Championship Finals will take place from January 27 to February 7, 2026 in Jakarta. A total of 16 teams will participate, divided into four groups, playing a round-robin format to select the top two teams from each group to advance to the quarter-finals. From this round onwards, matches will be held in a knockout format to determine the continental champion.
According to the FIFA men's futsal rankings announced on August 29, 2025, the Vietnam team is ranked 26th in the world , in the second seed group with Uzbekistan (19), Afghanistan (33) and Iraq (41). With its current position and significant progress in recent times, the Vietnam futsal team is expected to continue to make its mark at the 2026 tournament.

Currently, the Vietnamese futsal team is actively preparing for the 33rd SEA Games, with 20 players in the best form being called up for the upcoming gathering. According to the plan, after the Southeast Asian Games , coach Diego Giustozzi and his team will continue to focus on the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship. It is expected that during this preparation period, the team will have an international friendly match with a guest, a top Asian futsal team, or go to Indonesia a week early to train and compete before officially entering the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship campaign.
