Vietnamese track and field athletes determined to defeat Kenyan athletes

Vietnam's track and field athlete Nguyen Trung Cuong will compete again with Edwin Kiptoo at the Tay Ho Half Marathon 2025, taking place from April 11 to 13 in Hanoi.

On April 3, sharing with Tuoi Tre Online at the press conference to launch the race, athlete Nguyen Trung Cuong said he was very excited to meet Edwin Kiptoo again on the half marathon (21km) course of Tay Ho Half Marathon 2025.

Kiptoo, born in 1993, has a lot of experience in participating in international long-distance races. Kiptoo has competed in a number of races in Vietnam and often won championships.

"Kiptoo is a bit outclassed compared to Vietnamese athletes, but I will still fight fairly. My biggest goal is to fight with all my might to win myself," said Nguyen Trung Cuong.

Last season, Trung Cuong finished second in the Tay Ho Half Marathon 2024, 21km distance, with a time of 1 hour 12 minutes 17 seconds, 1 minute slower than champion Kiptoo (1 hour 11 minutes 10 seconds).

The last time Trung Cuong participated in a Half Marathon (Tien Phong Marathon in March 2025 in Quang Tri ), he won with a time of 1 hour 7 minutes 15 seconds. Previously, Trung Cuong also had a very good result at the 2024 National Marathon and Long Distance Championship with a time of 1 hour 8 minutes 13 seconds.

Sharing about this performance change, Trung Cuong said: "My personal record for this distance is 67 minutes and 15 seconds. If I run in favorable weather and a beautiful route at the upcoming Tay Ho race, I will be determined to break my record."

Nguyen Trung Cuong, born in 2000, is a member of the Vietnamese athletics team participating in recent regional sports events. Trung Cuong is strong in middle and long distances, especially the 3,000m steeplechase. He won a silver medal in the 3,000m steeplechase at the 30th SEA Games, and a gold medal in this event at the 32nd SEA Games.

Regarding his most important goal this year, Trung Cuong said he will try to defend his gold medal in his forte when attending the 33rd SEA Games in December in Thailand.

The 2025 Tay Ho Half Marathon will take place from April 11 to 13 in Hanoi . This is the 5th edition of the race, following 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024. With up to 12,000 athletes, the race continues to affirm itself as one of the largest half marathon races in Vietnam.

This is not only a prestigious half marathon, but also a part of Hanoi's sports history. The race route passes through heritage sites such as Quan Thanh Temple, Tran Quoc Pagoda, Tay Ho Palace, and Nhat Tan peach village.
