The new rural roads in An Binh commune (Phu Giao district, Binh Duong province) are spacious, clean and beautiful, connecting us to visit the agricultural economic models of billionaire farmers in this village...
We returned to An Binh commune, Phu Giao district in the early days of March. Occasionally, a light breeze blew by, dispelling the heat of the dry season.
The new, clean and beautiful rural roads connect us to visit the agricultural economic models of the billionaire farmers in this village...
"Where there's a will, there's a way...to become a billionaire"
Mr. Dinh Ngoc Khuong is affectionately called “Chicken Khuong” by the people of An Binh commune. Different from the initial thoughts about the hard-working farmers, Mr. Khuong has the style of a modern businessman applying high technology.
Taking us to visit the chicken farm and durian garden, Mr. Khuong said that in the past, life was difficult. To make ends meet, he had to do many jobs. Then, he saved up a little capital and borrowed more to buy 2 hectares of garden land to grow cassava, longan trees and raise livestock.
Since then, his family has developed and now has a total agricultural land area of more than 12 hectares, including 4 hectares of durian trees that are bearing fruit, 4 hectares of rubber trees that are being exploited, and the remaining 5 hectares are used to build livestock barns.
With the will to get rich, Mr. Dinh Ngoc Khuong (left), a billionaire farmer in An Binh commune (Phu Giao district, Binh Duong province), who currently owns a billion-dollar business, shared with us his will to overcome difficulties and become rich legitimately.
Leading us on a tour of the chicken farming area, Mr. Khuong said that since 2005, his family started raising pigs on a small scale, initially with 10 sows, then expanded to buy 30 - 40 more pigs to raise, but still on a household scale.
By 2010, as a member of the An Binh Commune Farmers' Association, he had access to good models and effective methods, and participated in training courses on effective agricultural economics. He began to apply and raise more broiler chickens.
Initially, he raised only about 20,000 chickens, then gradually expanded the scale of the chicken flock in parallel with raising pigs. At that time, pork prices were high, so in early 2017, his family invested in building a larger pig farm to develop the pig herd.
Currently, Mr. Khuong's total chicken herd through the intermediary is more than 600,000, with stable output. Thanks to the initiative in breeding, his family's chicken farming model has brought quite high economic efficiency, spreading inside and outside the province. In total, the production models have brought the family a revenue of over 90 billion VND/year with a profit of about 5 billion VND/year. |
“However, in 2019, the outbreak of African swine fever caused great damage to the livestock industry, including my family. The pig farm had to be temporarily abandoned, and the ability to redevelop the pig herd also encountered many difficulties due to the scarcity of breeding stock. There was no vaccine for the disease and it was highly likely to re-emerge.
After this incident, my family decided to stop raising pigs and focus on raising chickens because they realized that raising chickens has a stable output. Although the price is low at times, overall it still gives above average economic efficiency," Mr. Khuong shared.
Raising chickens opens up a new business direction. To be proactive in input and reduce product costs, increasing competitiveness in the market, after researching and learning from experience, Mr. Khuong decided to invest in a large-scale chicken breeding farm.
The family-built chicken farm in 2019 has an investment capital of 28 billion VND, applying high technology with a closed process, from raising chickens for eggs, selecting eggs, incubating eggs and taking care of chicks.
In the breeding farm, 20,000 reserve chickens (prepared for parent chickens) and 20,000 parent chickens are raised for eggs to hatch. 18 automatic incubators are used with a capacity of 19,200 eggs each. The farm's maximum capacity is 600,000 chicks/month.
Up to now, his family has produced chicken breeds for broiler farms and provided breeds to chicken farmers in and outside the district.
Regarding broiler chickens, the family's total flock is 200,000 chickens, the raising time is 60 days for sale, the average weight of each chicken when sold is 1.7kg, raising 4 batches per year, giving an average output of 1,800 tons/year, with the selling price at the time of 42,000 VND/1kg of chicken can bring a profit of about 5,000 VND/1kg...
Also one of the good farmers of An Binh commune, Mr. Nguyen Tan Liem has been growing 4 hectares of durian trees for many years and is exploiting the fruit with high economic efficiency.
Mr. Liem said that many years ago, he planted rubber trees, but due to the continuous decrease in latex prices, it was no longer effective. After that, his family switched to growing longan trees and lingzhi mushrooms, but the economic efficiency was not high because "a good harvest means low prices, and a good price means a bad harvest."
Having access to learn about fruit growing models with high economic value, in 2018 his family switched to growing durian. With the current garden price of 100,000 VND/kg for traders, after deducting investment costs, his family earned a profit of 1 billion VND/crop.
To improve the economic efficiency of durian exploitation, Mr. Liem has successfully tested the method of making durian produce fruit out of season. He plans to apply this technique to the entire garden next season...
Responsibility, affection
Starting from nothing, but with the will and determination to dare to think, dare to do, exploit and effectively use resources such as capital, land, apply science and technology, new technology in production, farmers in Phu Giao district such as Mr. Khuong, Mr. Liem... have overcome difficulties to become rich legitimately with a billion-dollar business.
Not only do they enrich themselves, they also know how to share, help and promote the spirit of responsibility and affection towards the community.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Liem, a billionaire farmer in An Binh commune, Phu Giao district (Binh Duong province) introduces the application of techniques to help durian trees produce fruit out of season.
Talking about the farmer billionaires, Mr. Trinh Duc Dung, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phu Giao district (Binh Duong province) said that the farmer billionaires in the district not only create high revenue for their families, but also create jobs for local workers, actively contributing to the development of agricultural economy and new rural construction.
For example, the production and business model of Mr. Dinh Ngoc Khuong's family has created jobs for more than 50 regular workers, with the lowest income being 7 million VND/person/month and the highest being 15 million VND/person/month, depending on the specific job.
Many farmers have come to visit and learn from the model. Some poor households have even had their breeding stock sold to them on installments without interest to develop their family economy. The billionaire farmers who are still alive are responsible and loyal to the community, actively contributing to the Fund for the Poor, the Fund to support farmers, and supporting people affected by natural disasters.
“In particular, during the Covid-19 outbreak, Mr. Khuong's family supported the epidemic prevention and control work with money and necessities worth 130 million VND. In addition, the family also actively participated in building new rural areas and advanced new rural areas, such as voluntarily cutting down trees to clear land, contributing money to repair and renew rural roads and rural infrastructure works with an amount of over 150 million VND...”, Mr. Dung said.
