Vietnam U20 women's team adds to squad, prepares for World Cup qualifiers

This week, the coaching staff adjusted the squad, adding some players with experience in previous qualifying rounds to strengthen the Vietnam U20 women's team.

At the 2024 AFC U20 Women's Championship, Vietnam's U20 Women's Team will compete in Group B with Japan, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and China. This is considered a difficult group for coach Akira Ijiri and his team as Japan U20 and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea U20 are the defending champions and runners-up, while China is also an experienced opponent in this tournament.

Evaluating this group, coach Akira Ijiri said: “At the moment, we can see that the 3 opponents in the same group are all strong teams, ranked high in the world and have a higher level than the Vietnamese team. We will play our best. The whole team will not give up because of difficulties, on the contrary, this is a good opportunity to meet strong opponents. We will compete and show the Vietnamese spirit.”

The 2024 AFC U20 Women's Championship is the most important tournament for Vietnamese youth football this year. The four teams with the highest achievements in the 2024 AFC U20 Women's Championship will qualify for the 2024 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup, which will take place in Colombia next September.
