On the afternoon of May 26, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Permanent Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee inspected the work of protecting relics and national artifacts and treasures at the Hue Monuments Complex.
The delegation inspected the protection work at Thai Hoa Palace - Hue Imperial City, where a visitor violated and broke the armrest (left side) of the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty Throne.
The Standing Vice Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee has directed the Hue Monuments Conservation Center and related units to review management and protection work and have urgent solutions at key relic sites and areas displaying valuable artifacts.
Speaking to the press during an inspection at Thai Hoa Palace, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh said that the incident of the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty throne, being violated was regrettable and had very serious consequences.
The Hue City People's Committee reported the incident to the Government and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; at the same time, it also requested relevant agencies to quickly come up with solutions to better preserve precious artifacts and national treasures in the area.
Hue City re-evaluated the situation, requested a review and review of the responsibilities of each individual and organization. In particular, provided lessons and developed plans to better protect national treasures, artifacts as well as the entire relics.
The Standing Vice Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee said that he has assigned the responsibility to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center to coordinate with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop plans to protect national relics, treasures and valuable artifacts in accordance with the provisions of law.
Inspecting the display and protection of artifacts and national treasures at the Hue Royal Antiquities Museum, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh also requested to strengthen protection work and prevent unexpected situations.
In addition to assigning and arranging appropriate human resources, it is necessary to increase the application of technology to preserve and ensure absolute safety for relics and artifacts.
Hue City People's Committee also requested relevant units to strengthen professional training for security forces directly protecting relics and heritage sites.
At the same time, strengthen propaganda and mobilization work so that people and the community pay attention and join hands to preserve and protect the precious assets of the nation that exist in the area.
According to the reporter of Van Hoa newspaper, many domestic and international tourists came to visit Thai Hoa palace and admire the treasures and artifacts displayed in the inner palace area.
Some tourists who learned about the “incident” on May 24 expressed regret for not having the opportunity to admire the national treasure here.
Currently, the throne on display at Thai Hoa Palace is a 2023 restored version, in proportion to the original. Previously, this restored throne was displayed at Ngu Phung - Ngo Mon Hue for visitors.
Ms. Ha Thi Thuy Dung, a tourist from Phu Tho province who came to visit Hue heritage on this occasion, shared: Before entering Thai Hoa Palace, our group heard information about someone entering here and destroying the throne of the Nguyen Dynasty king and felt very sorry.
"This is a national treasure with great cultural heritage value, and also spiritual significance, so it needs to be protected more strictly," said tourist Ha Thi Thuy Dung.
Mr. Hoang Viet Trung, Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said: After the incident, we immediately implemented a number of urgent solutions, and at the same time built sustainable, long-term solutions.
We have moved the original artifacts to the museum for preservation, and will establish a Council according to regulations to evaluate and propose preservation and treatment plans. We also coordinate with functional units to deploy modern technological solutions, train situations, and enhance support tools...
"In fact, Thai Hoa Palace has been equipped with a surveillance camera system and intrusion alarms, but after this incident of national treasure destruction, there will have to be more fundamental and strict solutions," said Mr. Hoang Viet Trung.
To date, Hue city has 14 artifacts/sets of artifacts with 41 individual artifacts recognized as national treasures. Particularly at the relic sites belonging to the Complex of Hue Monuments, there are 12 artifacts/sets of artifacts with 38 individual artifacts that are national treasures.
At the Thai Hoa Palace relic, in addition to the Nguyen Dynasty throne, there is also a national treasure, a pair of dragon statues from the Thieu Tri period. This set of artifacts is the pinnacle of integration, simulating the shape of the "golden seals" cast from the Minh Mang period to the Thieu Tri period in the "wrapped dragon" style.
