UAE convicts 53 defendants on terrorism charges

The UAE's Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal has convicted 53 individuals and six companies of terrorism, the WAM news agency reported.

According to WAM, 43 of these defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment for establishing and managing a terrorist organization called the “Justice and Dignity Committee” to carry out terrorist acts in the UAE. Meanwhile, 5 other defendants were sentenced to 15 years in prison each for collaborating with the “Call for Reforms” organization, supporting the organization in articles and statements posted on social media platforms with the aim of opposing the UAE.

The remaining defendants were sentenced to 10 years in prison each and fined a total of AED 10 million (more than USD 2.7 million) for “laundering proceeds from criminal acts such as establishing and financing a terrorist organization”.

All of the above defendants are leaders and members of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) organization.
