In Than Uyen commune, greenhouses growing black grapes, milk grapes, etc. are gradually becoming familiar. The automatic drip irrigation system helps people save costs and labor.
Mr. Lo Van Ninh - Director of Hua Na Agricultural Cooperative (Than Uyen commune) shared: "Previously, people grew grapes, cucumbers, and melons in the traditional way, so the productivity was low and the income was not high. Since the Cooperative was established and applied drip irrigation technology, growing in greenhouses on nearly 1 hectare of milk grapes and black grapes, the productivity increased by nearly 30%. In particular, cucumbers and melons have higher selling prices, and the income of Cooperative members has increased by about 40% each year."
In addition to Than Uyen commune, many other localities such as Phong Tho, Tan Uyen, Binh Lu, and Sin Ho are also promoting the application of high technology in production.

According to Mr. Vuong Duc Loi - Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, the technology application models have brought about remarkable results. Productivity increased by 10 - 30%, water saving by 20 - 40%, fertilizer reduction by 5 - 30% and people's income increased by 35 - 40% compared to traditional farming.
Not only farmers, many enterprises and cooperatives in the area have also proactively invested in modern technology in production. Currently, the whole province has dozens of cooperatives and enterprises boldly investing in the field of high-tech agriculture. Typical examples include Truong Phat Lai Chau One Member Co., Ltd. in Phong Tho commune growing black grapes in greenhouses meeting OCOP standards; Pusilung Ginseng Joint Stock Company in Bum Nua commune producing high-tech ginseng, along with vegetable and melon models in Tan Uyen and Binh Lu. Many cooperatives have also applied VietGAP and ISO 22000:2018 production processes in preliminary processing, processing and packaging of products.
High-tech application models are gradually proving their effectiveness, motivating farmers, cooperatives and businesses to continue to boldly innovate production methods. Thereby, contributing to promoting digital transformation and building an environmentally friendly agriculture.

In recent times, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has advised the Provincial People's Committee to deploy many solutions to support farmers, cooperatives, and businesses in accessing and applying technology in production, preservation, and consumption of agricultural products. Every year, the Department organizes training courses, technology transfer, and demonstration models to help farmers master advanced production processes. At the same time, it coordinates with Viettel, VNPT, and the Provincial Post Office to bring OCOP products to e-commerce platforms, contributing to promoting digital transformation in agriculture.
In particular, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has advised and proposed planning a high-tech agricultural area along the Than Uyen - Tan Uyen - Binh Lu - Phong Tho - Ma Lu Thang axis, forming high-tech and organic agricultural areas in key communes; high-tech application areas in vegetable, flower and fruit production in the communes of Tan Uyen, Than Uyen, Binh Lu, Phong Tho and the wards of Doan Ket and Tan Phong in the list of projects expected to be prioritized for implementation in Lai Chau province in the period of 2021 - 2030.

Despite many positive results, the application of technology in agriculture still faces many difficulties due to lack of investment capital, limited technical human resources, and unsynchronized logistics infrastructure. Mr. Vuong Duc Loi - Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment said: "The Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment will continue to innovate production methods, strengthen value chain linkages, attract high-tech enterprises to invest, and develop products with clear traceability, meeting export standards".
In the coming time, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment will continue to promote digital transformation associated with the development of green, circular and organic agriculture, while focusing on building brands, geographical indications and electronic traceability for key products. Along with that, continue to train and improve the capacity of staff, farmers and cooperatives, expand cooperation with institutes, schools and technology enterprises to effectively apply technical advances in production.
These efforts are opening up new directions for Lai Chau agriculture, from small-scale production to commodities, from traditional to high-tech. The application of science and technology not only increases the value of agricultural products but also affirms Lai Chau's determination to build a green, modern agriculture.
