Speaking at the Ophthalmology 2025 conference, jointly organized by the Central Eye Hospital and Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital on August 9 in Hanoi, Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health, said that in recent years, the health sector has faced many challenges, from pandemics, overload, bottlenecks in investment and procurement...

Vietnam is recognized by the World Health Organization as having eliminated trachoma; every year, hundreds of thousands of patients are examined and treated with modern techniques: phaco, vitrectomy, corneal transplant, laser treatment of refractive errors, diabetic retina management, pediatric eye care...

According to the Deputy Minister of Health, this is the time to be a pioneer in digital transformation, applying artificial intelligence, building a network of specialized specialists, and spreading effective eye care models to areas with limited access to healthcare.

Therefore, the leaders of the Ministry of Health suggested that the two leading hospitals should continue to play a leading role in the national ophthalmology system, proactively advise the Ministry of Health on blindness prevention, update protocols, complete technical lists, and develop professional guidelines, especially in the context of population aging and increasing non-communicable diseases.

At the same time, hospitals need to promote digital transformation in a substantial and comprehensive manner, from electronic medical records, specialized data, to integrating AI in imaging diagnosis, risk stratification and treatment personalization...

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Ngoc Dong, Director of the Central Eye Hospital, said that the Ophthalmology 2025 conference is a prestigious scientific forum to share the latest ophthalmological advances, technological applications in ophthalmology, treatment experiences, hospital management, and find optimal solutions in eye care and protection, contributing to the realization of Vietnam's Vision goals by 2030.

According to the Director of the Central Eye Hospital, with the participation, display and introduction of products from more than 30 pharmaceutical and ophthalmic medical equipment companies and distributors, doctors have the opportunity to access the most modern technology, machinery and the best medicines to be able to examine, diagnose and treat patients.

"After years of hardship due to lack of medicine and medical supplies, more than ever, ophthalmologists are happier to not only have enough, but also have the best medicine, the most modern machinery, and the most advanced medical supplies to serve patients," Associate Professor Dong emphasized.

Nowadays, ophthalmological equipment is increasingly modern, providing the best services to patients. However, Associate Professor Dong emphasizes comprehensive consultation and assessment before prescribing refractive surgery.

As with the hospital's new machine system, it can treat complex refractive errors, myopia up to -10.00 Diopter, astigmatism up to -5.00 Diopter, and hyperopia up to +6.00 Diopter.

"However, this method is only suitable for patients with thin corneas or who are not eligible for surgery with other methods. Patients also need to be 18 years old or older, have stable vision for at least 6-12 months; have appropriate corneal thickness; and not have eye diseases such as keratoconus, infection, corneal scarring, severe dry eye, severe retinal diseases, etc.," said Associate Professor Dong.
