On the afternoon of May 28, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep signed two urgent dispatches to localities in the Northern region, Thanh Hoa and coastal provinces from Binh Dinh to Ninh Thuan, requesting them to focus on responding to two types of natural disasters that are developing complicatedly: floods on rivers in the North and low pressure areas forming in the East Sea.

The official dispatch of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment was issued after the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology reported that from the evening of May 28 to May 29, the Northern region and Thanh Hoa are likely to experience a flood with an amplitude of 2-5m on the Thao River, Lo River and other small rivers. The flood peak in the upstream is likely to exceed alert level 1.

Faced with this risk, localities need to closely monitor the development of floods and rains, promptly inform local authorities and people, and inspect production and aquaculture activities in rivers and along rivers to ensure the safety of people, property and constructions. Owners of rafts, water transport vehicles and riverside construction projects need to proactively respond and not be passive in emergency situations.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, a low pressure area has formed in the central part of the East Sea. This morning, the low pressure area was located at about 11-12 degrees North latitude and 110-120 degrees East longitude. The sea area from Binh Dinh to Ninh Thuan has strong gusts of wind at level 6-7, waves over 2 meters high, posing a danger to maritime activities.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment recommends that coastal provinces proactively inform vessels operating at sea of information to avoid dangerous areas, and maintain regular communication to promptly handle bad situations. Rescue forces also need to be ready to deploy when requested.
